22yrs of GS's and my 2011 twin cam (which I'd had for 10 faultless years) having been recently stolen, I thought I'd look around for an alternative. (There is a 1991 GS in the garage still so not abandoning the good old GS).

I have come across, and in negotiations on, a 2014 RT with very low mileage on the clock...under 7k 😳

Part service history, MOT every year and expires in July... mileage to the testing station and home in the last 4yrs.

So, having gone through the threads in this section is there anything I should be checking for a beast that's been stabled far too long?

I understand this model features in the prop-shaft recall but doubt this has been carried out on this particular 'bike.

Oh yes... does this model have the fuel strip?

TIA

I think some had alternator issues - an expensive fail
If its been kept on a trickle charger for a long time the battery may need replacing. Hopefully it will be the Liquid Cooled boxer, which came out in 2014.
I’ve had a couple of them with no issues. My latest is a 2015 RT LE with 16,000 miles on it. I’ve had it two years, and only recently had to replace the original battery, the fork seals were replaced under warranty. It had the shaft recall check and was fine, the dealer replaced the footpeg retaining clips at the same time.

2014 bike and early 2015 bikes had the dreaded alternator issue, our 2014 bike cost £2500 at mates rates to fix. Personally I would go for a later bike, late 2015 onwards.

If it's a 2014 bike, it will likely have been caught up in the shenanigans when they were ALL grounded because of the collapsing rear suspension linkage. Worth double-checking with the dealer that the appropriate recall was carried out at the time.

Exhaust flaps were expensive to sort when they stuck. There may be aftermarket solutions available now.

Did many miles on them. Enjoyed the ride.

I've stuck with the earlier twin cam for the time being, mainly because they are a simpler being, but at some point I'll upgrade.

A model Ive never considered tbh... just had a quick look and it looks a fine machine.

Jim, i have a lovely 2013 90th Anniversary Limited Edition model with just 12k on the clock if you are still looking for an RT. The last of the Twin Cam. Fits your budget too.
Bought from John Nicholson of this parish.

He recently bought a newish LC, Phil....(He'll be having his afternoon nap at the moment so won't see this for hours, until his carer wakes him and allows him his " 'puter time")
