Peeps,

I have 2017 1200GS that I have been using with the Vario luggage... I've been finding the panniers increasingly irritating to use and the easy lack of ability to strap anything to the top of them when the kitchen sink needs transporting a pain in the bum..

So I recently had an unusual for me impulsive moment on ebay and bought a set of GSA alloy luggage! This will be coming without pannier frames or top box rack...

Now I've had this luggage before on a previous but long gone GSA and like it so do at least intend to persevere and get it fitted to the bike. My original plan had been to get a set of aftermarket panniers and keep the vario top box but heh ho that's what impulsion does for you!

Question therefore.. Are there any other options in terms of getting mounting hardware other than just sucking it up and parting my cheeks at the BM dealer?

cheers

R

Suck it up buttercup.....!

I think you are stuck with paying over the odds and fitting bmw racks as nowt else with fit the bmw boxes.....but I could be wrong......(it does happen, but not often !...lol)

Good luck, you might get some racks off eBay...if ya lucky

I fitted a GSA rack, rear footrests and pannier frames ( all bought secondhand on ukgser) to my brand new r1250gs. This allowed me to keep my 2017 GSA panniers and topbox.
All the purchased kit is as new and the total cost was about 33% of new prices.
Put a wanted thread up here and see how you go.

I to went down this route on my 2017 GS. I got the frames on this site for a great price but I did buy the panniers and locks new at eye watering cost. If you are going to travel on your bike you can justify it though. I did not bother with GSA pillion foot pegs as I never take a pillion which obviously saved me a few quid.

I wasn't lucky enough to get a used rack off here or anywhere else . I did miss a set on here though .
I got a good discount from Vines really helpful guys at the other end of the phone.

With lowered footpegs around £660 I think .In hindsight I didn't really need the lowered pegs and could have saved over £200.

Look good on the 1250 Exclusive along with my wrapped panniers :D

I've fitted GSA racks and side cases to my GS LC, total cost was about £350 all bought on here. You also need to replace one of the pillion footpegs (can't remember which without looking at the bike) or simply cut a section off the GS version already fitted - I was lucky enough to receive a modded footpeg included with the racks.

I received the GSA top box rack in the deal but haven't yet used it, the GSA side cases work great with a Givi Trekker top box fitted on the standard GS rack, much more capacity for touring two up than with a full set of GSA cases and enables us to use the top box for two helmets when away from the bike.

Gentlemen

Thank you all for your valuable input.. it would appear that my buffoonery is more serious financially than I feared... I shall have to hope and pray for some used ones to come up for sale... I may also pop down tomorrow to my local and esteemed bm dealer to see just how wide I shall need to part myself should it come to that ! 😀

Have you tried contacting the used parts sellers, who advertise their services on UKGSer? Failing that, we are told that EBay is awash with Eastern Europeans selling stolen and stripped bike parts. Bound to save yourself a few bob there.

Good points and no not as yet. There's nowt on ebay at present other than Chinese copy parts which I'm not tempted by but I'll set up a saved search..

cheers

I done the same to mine

I still have all the parts needed if your interested
