Just taken my panniers off my 2013 GSA (big alu BMW Ones) and I can't get the key to go all the way into one of the locks, unfortunately it's the one that attaches the pannier to the bike. Is the a known fault? is there an easy fix ? The bike is still under BMW warranty but no idea if pannier locks are covered :(

There's definitely nothing stuck in it, like a stone, and nothing fell off or out of the lock.

I've not even been out for a ride on it yet after getting it home :(

Flush out the lock with WD40, its probably full of road grit and dirt.

Hi, are you saying you've got the panniers off and now can't get them (it) back on? Does the same key open the other 2 locks on the pannier? i.e. the ones that release the lid? Alan

I've flushed it with degreaser then WD40 but it feels like one of the shims in the cylinder is blocking the barrel- aargh

Can you poke a bit of stiff wire in there and see if you can free it up ?

I've tried all three keys including the little black plastic one and fiddled for about half an hour with various poking devices including a little Allen key and fiddled with the spring shim on the back of the lock - the mech is open but the cylinder is locked. no Joy - looks like a trip to Vines in Guildford tomorrow :(

One of my panniers did that after riding the brand new bike back from the dealer, after 45 minutes mucking about I was so pissed off I sprayed in some more wd40 and then brayed the key in with a rubber mallet and turned it using as much force as was possible , figured out if it buggered up bmw could recover the bike as the key would be stuck in the pannier so it would be unrideable..... it worked and the key and lock have been fine ever since

Sounds risky

If the pannier is on the bike try pressing the latch on to the pannier frame to release pressure off the lock and it should release they go very tight if the hook of the latch is not fully round the pannier frame

This will stop the key turning but wont affect how far the key goes into the lock.

Got the same problem,on the exhaust side mate.Took it back to dealer and they said its just stiff, tried the WD route and all sorts but they said it will ease with use !! Have to force the key in and twist really hard to lock or unlock,no key broken yet but it'll go back if things don't improve !!
No worries on the other side at all,I think its the shape of the pannier rails personally, quite a sharp bend in them compared to the previous model !;)
