GSA PANNIERS & TOP BOXES RECOMMENDATIONS?

Got the black Touratechs on my GS, they have the advantage of having the cutout for the exhaust

They are great boxes but the quick release system is a bit shite, not a problem if you use inner bags as I now do

I had Givi Outbacks on my crosstourer. The one key mounting / locking system is excellent as others have said and the frames are also quick removable in 2 minutes

Got the Givi TRK52 cos they hold 2 full face lids

Holan panniers and racks are great value and quality. Their racks are about half the cost of MetalMule racks !

They look great until you see they are not symmetrical, then some wont like it. Doesn't bother me though.

The really good thing about these panniers, if you look closely at the top part of the case, its hinged about 30% up.

This means you can open the side panniers just the top part, so keeps everything else secure and dry while accessing just the top.

Ideal for water, snacks, maps, rain-cover, camera, etc...

I run an old givi E48 black plastic box I got from a show second hand 6 or 7 years ago, cost £10 with the plate but the key was snapped in the lock so it cost £5 more for a new lock on ebay.
2 years ago I got the same boxes as panniers with a brand new givi rack, boxes were great but the rack was very rusty after just 1 winter, I would get them powder coated from new if I was doing it again.

Sorted now though, got the wife trained to a 2 week trip round Europe with just the top box and a 20 ltr tank bag though it's hotels rather than camping so no panniers needed.

It helps that I travel very light.
Top box.
3 pairs pants.
3 pairs socks.
1 tee shirt.
1 vest.
1 shorts.
1 pair collapsible trainers.
1 tooth brush.
1 tooth paste.
Light weight waterproofs.

Tank bag.
10 inch laptop for work.
Kindle.
Phone charger.
Spare phone charger.
Paper map.
High viz vest.

Riding clothes.
Pants.
Socks.
Vest.
Kevlar jeans.
Kevlar denim jacket.
Gloves.
Boots.

That's all I need for 2 weeks, wash my pants and socks every few days and by the end of 2 weeks my jeans jacket and vest could ride the bike home on their own but as long as I have clean ish gear for the night I'm good.
Shmbo takes about twice that.

In my experience most people carry far more than they need.

Add to that a Touratech pannier frame tool box with.
Sockets and torx keys
Leatherman multi tool
Puncture kit
Compressor.
Torch
First aid kit
Zip ties
Gaffer tape
Lighter.

Very pleased with the set I have for my LC, and very pleased with the set I have on my not LC. A happy customer.


(That'll be the LC which goes soooo much better after my recent visit to Hinckley....
