I'm determined to be done with the crappy Vario bags that BMW threw in, as a promotion, when I bought my 12GS Triple Black six months ago. No matter how hard I tried, they wouldn't take no for an answer!

So, with a view to replacing them I'm thinking of making a bid on a set of GSA racks I've just spotted on eBay.

Question: will the GSA racks happily cohabit with the standard passenger grab rail on the 12GS, or am I also going to need to source a GSA rear rack?

A.

I think you should have been more insistent with your dealer, they should have taken off the price of the varios and let you pay the difference and had adventure luggage from new.

I think you can fit the adv panniers with just the side frames and fittings, you will have to remove the vario side fitments. If I was you I'd get the top rack and the adv topbox plate as well. In the uk the racking etc is around 600 pound and the panniers + topbox etc another 1000 pounds!!

You can I think just fit the adventure side rails and retain the GS rear rack although in my opinion it looks a bit odd.

Fitted my old ali boxes to my GS no problem - originally fitted to my 2006 GSA and got the dealer to throw in a new GSA rear rack as part of the deal:thumb

There you go picture of one that's on a bike that Pidcocks are selling :thumb

Look in their used bike selection under r1200GS SE for more photos.

Yes they will fit no problem with the standard gs rack. I have just done it:beerjug:

No problems putting GSA frames/panniers on a GS, ask Sadjim of this site for prices on the GSA pannier frames. Not cheap, and they weigh lots, but you can carry a lot in GSA panniers.

The standard GS rack is a nasty piece of plastic crap, take it off, and if you don't need the pillion seat, replace that with a touralichbling rack thing to carry even more stuff about.

Don't be too disheartned abot the Varios. Pop them on Ebay, they get quite good money. Mine sold for over £400. :thumb2

Yes did exactly that. Got the Adventure top rack for £50 off ebay. I've got some Ard cases with Holan Racks from Poland - Roger did a really nice job. Sold my Varios quite easily on this parish as the side opening was driving me nuts after a 12 day trip last year. If you don't end up getting the Adventure cases you would be better off IMHO to decide which boxes you want and then buy the side racks as they are all slightly different. See here for pics.
