I have a 2020 1250 GSA which I’ve recently fitted a black Krapper to. I’ve now got my eye on the titanium collectors as the price at NN’s has come down a bit. The site recommends a remap to avoid the engine warning light activating. I live around the London area, does anyone know where I could get this done? I suspect a main dealer wouldn’t be able to carry this out.

You are right to be suspicious.
Look for Speedo healer or similar.
However my question is as always, why?
Are the originals duff? Or will this suddenly liberate an extra 25 horspower?
My top tip for this - don`t.

I agree. Unless there’s something broken leave well alone. In my opinion any work of this nature devalues the bike. JJH

Can't recommend a good De Cat pipe enough (y) Theres plenty of exhaust servo delete kits out there, i use a Skutnet but there all decent and probably do the same job. It will improve your bikes mid range torque and will let it breath easier, i dont really see why you would'nt do it.
Another little Brucie Bonus been that the exhausts flappers on the standard pipes are renown for seizing on these bikes and is nothing but a massive ballache... withe the decat all thats gone :thumby:
Oh and incase your wondering ive had my decatted for just over 90'000 mile and its still thumping away just fine. ;)

Of course you’ll keep your insurance company informed of these changes.
Even though any perceived improvement will be minimal at best.

The bike hasn’t done too many miles and it’s back in the garage to have the exhaust flap replaced. The bill was £1500 but, since I’m just out of warranty, BMW took pity and will replace if I pay the labour. The flap is, apparently, renowned for failing and I expect it’ll do it again but, I’ll end up having my pants pulled down for the repair/replacement. I’m not particularly bothered about midrange or a few extra nags, it’s saving money and chopping a bit of weight. I’ll do some more research and see how I get on, however, one missed beat from that flapper and it’s in the skip.

Cheers, see my reply to an earlier question below. 👍🏻

Is yours a 1250? Just wondering how the downstream lamda sensor reacts to having the cat removed?

Get A BT Moto tuning tool. Very easy to use and you can revert the bike back to stock at any time you wish. I've used their products on 3 bikes, totally transforms the bike. On my KTM 1290 GT their tune cured faults the KTM dealership could not fix after repeated visits, after the tune i covered 76,000 miles trouble free on the KTM.

It is...Not sure i understand what you mean about the sensor?

Nox sensors only look at pre determined values within their programmed range and a good remap will keep the bike within that range with or without a catalyst fitted. In some cases the fact that removing a catalyst helps the bike breathe better, move the gases quicker it never sees the high level it may see with a poor setup or blocked air filter etc.
Most modern bikes since 2016 adapt the bikes fueling based on sampling from the air intake temp sensor, throttle position sensor, lambda densors.
My M1000R adapts the fueling based on the 2 wideband sensors fitted in the exhaust, it will compensate for altitude, fuel quality etc.

The downstream O2 sensors function is to monitor the efficiency of the catalyst. This function must be "adapted" if the EML isnt on after the remap.

Yes, exactly that, however... most modern engines are extremely well set up in normal running and the NOX sensors do not monitor fueling on start up or while the bike is running closed loop, usually below 3000 Rpm as they would trigger an EML in most cases, the NOX sampling is triggered when the bike comes out of closed loop operation and as you say it then monitors catalyst efficiency however it only works at pre determined levels, the catalyst slows down and increases exhaust gas density for sampling, the catalyst has to slow the gases enough to get to and maintain operating heat ranges, thats why modern bikes can feel very hot round the feet especially in traffic.
Anyhow, back to the NOX sensor, it has a predetermined programme it works to, this is set based on gas velocity after the catalyst, so lets say a standard exhaust has a velocity of 1000 cfm after the catalyst and the NOX sensor samples the gas and expects 0.2 to 0.9 ppm based on the gas velocity it is programmed to work at, you then decat the bike and do nothing to it the bike then runs in a leaner condition in most situations due to no slowdown of the exhaust gases by the catalyst and will likely trigger an EML as the exhaust gases now move much faster to a point where the NOX sensor reads a very low or even a negative value which it isn't programmed to accept, triggering an EML. By adding fuel, adjusting ignition timing the bike can and will produce more power and if fuelling is taylored correctly to suit the decat system and flow speed of possibly 2500 cfm the Nox sensor can be fooled into thinking everything is normal. There is of course the option to just turn the sensor off within the parameters, this prevents any EML created by the NOX sensor.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve been in and out the this site since 2004 when I bought my first GSA, I had no idea it had been taken over by the morality police.

I've ordered a set of NN Titanium headers and they'll be getting fitted next week and I'll then map the bike to suit with the BT Tuner. ;)
