GSA seat/suspension help

I have just collected my (new to me) 2006 GSA and have ridden it back 188 miles in the rain. Fantastic!!

The only big issue is that it's a little tall for me compared with my GS 1200. I am 5'7

Does anyone know of a seat or suspension modification?

Being 5'7", why did you buy the Adventure and not the 'cooking' 1200GS? I'm very slightly shorter and would never contemplate the Adv...
You surely rode one before you bought?

There is a bmw low seat, sometimes pop up secondhand. Could have your existing seat cut down. I've just had that done and a gel pad put in by Tony Archer in Huddersfield for £140. Think standard GS seats fit and think they are a bit thinner.
 
The stock seats are all planks. Go buy a low Sargent seat and be done with it. Far more comfortable and will lower you a bit. After that learn how to hold the bike on one leg. At 5' 7" your a bit ambitious so be carefull where you pull up or your going to have to get good at picking it up.
 
You don't say how many miles the bike has done or whether the suspension has been replaced. If not the rear shock is probably goosed by now or soon will be. I would consider after market shocks. Wilbers are great from Revs racing in Birmingham. I would go for the slightly lower shocks ( not the lowest they do....the bike looks weird and you will never be able to sell it). Not only will you lower the bike a little but will also vastly improve ride and handling. When you come to sell the bike you will also get over half your money back if they remain in good nick.

On the seat, I wouldn't recommend a Sargent low seat. They are lower, but they are also wider than stock at the front, forcing your legs out making the bike hard to manage. Either go for a BMW low seat but the much cheaper option is to go to Tony Archer in Huddersfield as other have suggested. Your reprofiled stock seat will be built to your specifications and probably much comfiest than the torture device issued by BMW.

The shocks will set you back about £900, relatively straight forward to fit otherwise Revs will fit fo you, as will any bike mechanic.

I have a 2011gsa with a Sargent seat its a standard height but if if fits your bike you are welcome to give it a try.If you end up going the suspension route,there is a place in Stowmarket which I've heard good things about.

I bought the GSA as I already have a GS1200 which my feet are flat on the floor and thought the height difference would have not been that great.

Yes I tried a GSA before but must have had a lowered seat

First off check to see if it is on the higher setting which it probably is.
A standard GS seat will fit and lower it by some or go full on and buy a low GS seat which will fit and is what I have fitted to mine.

I have a standard GS, so will swap seats over later !
 
I'm 5' 9" and always liked the look of the GSA, along with the bigger tank. But I know my limits, have a GS.
Have a low Sargent seat on the low setting and find it much more comfortable than stock, but everyone is different. It's the width where the tank meets the seat that makes the difference.
Even with the low seat, mine had a little lie down at a junction with an adverse camber. For you, like me, engine bars are a must!
A friend of mine who rides a K100RT and who's vertically challenged, had a shoe mender add about an inch to the bottom of his bike boots.
Says it's a big help.
 
Im 5" 8in with a 28in inside leg, yes its very tippy toes but with a little forward planning its possible to ride it without much problem. I use a low Sergeant seat and have the ESA set on soft so when i sit on the beast it drops a fair bit.................mind you im a fat cnut and weigh in at 110kg.:eek: :D
