I keep reading a lot of questions about lowering a GSA og GS – but not many seem to go the other way – raising their seat height / ground clearance.

So my question is: Can I fit GSA suspension (shocks & springs) on my GS ( 1150 from 2003). Straight swap or is it a complicated affair?

If it´s not a complicated deal –*what part do you recommend I use? Wilbers? Ohlins? Original Beemer? Huh?

Thanks for all advice......

Not a problem to put a pair of adventure shocks on, but will help to put a adventure centre stand and side stand on aswell.

You may be able to do a swap with someone who wishes to lower a GSA, or keep a eye on e-bay for used parts.

The search facilty is your friend for lots of views good & bad of the various shocks

Good luck

I'd avoid the stock oem bimmer GSA shocks as they appear to be built down to a price, my old un had a fooked rear shock after 6k miles and the front whilst "considered" to be ok had no damping , replacement ohlins of the time (back in 2003) were a touch undersprung as std for two up touring with one fatty/skinny on board, but you can get stiffer springs alledgely.

You may need to change the standard GS main stand and side stand for the longer ADV versions.

I had no use for any extra ground clearance so i just bought second hand seats and padded those approx 4 cm higher. Did the trick for me. More comfortable knee angle and now i get to lean forvard a little while driving.

Thanks for your responses

.... now I am truly tempted. Doesnt sound like a "big deal", except an Ohlins setup undoubtedly will cause great pain to the wallet.

Time to start googling for parts.
