I bought a big roll of clear self adhesive vinyl from wilco’s for a few quid and I’ve done my last four bikes with it. It’s dead easy to do yourself and it’s so cheap if you cock it up on your first or second attempt just bin it and start again.
1. Cut out the pattern that you want on some stiff paper or thin card.
2. Keep trimming it to shape until you are happy with it.
3. Place your pattern onto the clear vinyl backing paper and draw around it.
4. Cut out the shape from the clear vinyl.
5. Get a bucket of scrupulously clean Luke warm water with just a tiny drop of liquid soap in it. (soap is optional)
6. Peel the back off the vinyl and position onto your tank or wherever, the water allows you to slide it into position.
7. Squeegy the water from the centre outwards.
8. After you have finished it don’t worry if it doesn’t look quite perfect, it may look greyish and have the odd very small air bubble but after a couple of days it will become clear and you will struggle to notice it.

PM me if you want me to walk you through it. :thumb2

I’ve just taken a photo of my tank but I don’t know how to get photo from my iPad onto here.:nenau

Andi, I’m definitely better at sticking vinyl than uploading photos, I can upload a photo on a brand new posting but I’m struggling with this, I went into the go advanced, then found the photo but but couldn’t make it upload to this page...any ideas ?

Select Go Advanced
Go Down below the response box and select the Manage Atachments button
Select the Choose file button
On the new window that opens search for and select your image then click the Open button [bottom right]
Repeat by selecting another Upload image button below your last selection to add more images if required
Once completed Click the Upload button this will host the images on the UKGSer server
You can then select the Close this window button [top right]

The selected images will then appear as attachments on your post as below
I hope this helps, sorry I cant post images here to help as Im at work

Andi

Tank protection

Tank protection c/o Wilco’s cheap clear adhesive vynil, it’s about a fiver for a huge roll.
I put it on all my bikes where there is a risk of rubbing through paintwork even on my trials bike, it’s cheap as chips and I’ve never worn through it.
Also it peels off dead easy if you want to remove it, leaving no marks or damage to paintwork.

Thanks Andi,
Beautifully explained, photo is not great as I’ve just taken it in my garage under fluorescent lamps, think it’s near enough though.
Cheers for that, I’ll have to practice a bit more.

Even on my trials bike

Even use it on my trials bike, on the frame where my boots normally wear through the paint and on the side panels etc....simples
