GSA Tank Range

My GSA has a hard life as im a 20 stoner plus  and i ride her hard at times but no matter what she'll always do 300 miles to a tank.

Think the only way it would fall short if you were blasting at 90 on the motorway non stop but to be fair thats understandable ;)

Regularly get 320 out of mine(y) I still get around 5 litres in it at fill ups, even though the TFT telling me I'm empty! It's all about the right wrist ;) Had the bike since June this year, but with work and the poxy weather, I've done very few long rides so that's is based on several rides per tank.

Because of that I've not as yet done what I normally do with all my bikes, that being carry a 2 litre can and run the bike till it stops, record the mileage, repeat and couple of times and take the average. All my other bikes do anywhere between 30 and 50 when the gangue/TFT or switched over to reserve.

Is there a mod to the filler neck that would allow trapped air out or does it fil brim full as it is?

Had a 660 Tenere years ago and a carefully drilled 3mm hole in the filler tube under the cap released a load of extra tank space.

I haven't; studied the filler neck on the GSA tank yet - anyone know?

Bear in mind that space is there for expansion. Get rid of that gap, brim it on a hot day and as the fuel warms, it might get interesting.

Yes - exactly so really only an idea if you fill up and ride off using enough fuel to go below the intended fill height.

GSMarky my 2017 GSA had a plastic extension inside the filler neck, which unclips easily if you undo the cap mounting bolts and remove the cap. Its possibly an ADR requirement here in Oz but once removed I can fill the tank a lot easier and close to the top without having to drill any holes. The breather will take care of any expansion I think.

Thanks for the tip & I was planning to remove the filler cap and have a look in there, so will bear this in mind.

Cheers!

A full up is good time to stretch the leg anyway. Just for reference, the reserve came on mt Gs800 and manual sat 57 km, I got 58 km, and it cut out 200 mtr from the petrol station, was able to paddle it in.

Reserve of 4l as well.
Great long distance machine.

I think when the light is on you're using the virtual reserve..

Does anyone know how far you can go after the TFT says zero range left?
According to the video i think he said that after the TFT said zero miles he was able to go on to do another 37 miles. Good job he decided to get back on the road then rather than going round and round the Haynes car park!

So there`s no need to worry then when you see zero miles left and you know the next petrol station is not within walking distance. In theory..

Blimey , GSA riders must have iron bladders , as a GS owner , after 120 miles I need to stop for a fag and a pee and must have passed 3 or more fuel stops before the 120. Cant see the need for the extra for me in Europe and the extra bulk and weight put me off after riding one for a day. Thats just my point not a knock...
