Gone from a 04GS to a 06GSA and noticed that the bike leans over a lot more on the GSA. Is this an 06 or GSA thing? If the latter, I was wondering why this is so and if it's possible to put a 06GS sidestand on the GSA so that it doesn't lean over so far. I had to wheel it over somewhere flatter so that I could get on the thing and upright it earlier!

I suspect that they both use the same sidestand and that is why the Adventure leans over further when it's propped on the sitestand. Having taller suspension means that it will lean over further than the GS for any given length of sidestand.

Isn't it something to do with the shocks? My 03 Adventure was fine, but another 03 Adventure would noticably lean over more, to the extent that it looked as if it would go over any minute. The only difference between the two IIRC was that the other owner had changed his rear shock. :nenau

You can get sidestand extensions that just stick / bolt underneath the sidestand base, to give you a bit more ... length. :mmmm

Check out nippy norman's site I'm sure I've seen side stand extending divices on there.

Good luck.

04 versus 06 GS

I've just bought a new 06 GS and the angle of lean is much greater than my old 04/05. My missus rides the bike as well and she found that she could'nt get it up any more   The bike now gets parked in the garage with the stand planted on a piece of wood about 11/2" thick. I complained where I got the bike from and they took a butchers hook and came to the conclusion that it was'nt the actual sidestand that had changed but rather the fixing arrangement to the bike   Why do they do this sort of 'improving', we had absolutely no problems with the 04/05 model but now we do

It's been suggested that we (the bike shop that is) weld a 10mm plate to the bottom of the sidestand but I've read somewhere about 18mm being used  that's one hell of a design f***up from BMW.

Did'nt anyone at BMW take the new design and TRY it for fecks sake  or is that asking to much :nenau
