GSA Weave !

Coming back on the GSA today after a wee camping trip, tent , sleeping bag etc not really fully loaded but pretty much. Anyway , first time with TKC's on the bike which I like, used them on the beach that's as hard core as I get (soft roader) anyway got a weave at 90mph on the motorway doing an overtake. Reminded me of my Pan days ! No drama but a real proper weave ! I assume the TKC's are to blame as never done it before with road tyres on !

get er up on the back wheel and the weave stops.....

Double check your tyre pressures, but at that spead and the tyre type, is probably the tyre's limit.

The TKC80's are only rated at 100mph max (AFAIK) on the GS/GSA. And at any speed over 80ish, even a naked GSA will get a bit flighty.

I thought that the recommended max speed for the 1200gs was 80mph fully loaded regardless of the tyres? The new LC is 100mph fully loaded.

Yep - 5kg max for topbox. 10kg max for each pannier; 130kph (80mph) max speed loaded.

I never exceed that, no sir!

I remember on my trip to Morocco with TKC80s and panniers I got a weave above 80mph. When I got back I sold the tyres and went back to road tyres.

Never had TKC80s on my GSA but on other bikes the weave starts around 80-90 and it doesn't matter how fast you can go with luggage on if the tyre rating is lower then that's your safe limit.

Really? Its also a thread that accuses the bike of weaving with full luggage. Mine has never weaved even with loaded full luggage. I find the GSA is THE most stable handling bike I have ever owned.

TBH I thought adding a quote back then was over doing it. But hey.

I was just wondering if your experience was with or without TKC80s. I don't see anything in the thread saying GSs are unstable other than stickers on luggage advising reduced speed.

I wouldn't trust my gsa fully laden and two up on an autobahn at more than say 100 to 110mph as it starts to feel unhappy and sidewinds or overbanding feel like they would push it into a weave, solo or two up without luggage ( (but a top box) it is fine at speed

could never get mine over 85 without weave (on a test track of course) whatever the load.
SLow down, the tyres will melt anyway. Thats why people call the TKC, they ride them too fast.

Mine has had 20kg across the top of two loaded side cases and the handling is fine - I hardly know it's there. But it is running road tyres. That's not knocking the TKC - an off road mud tyre that will clearly have a limited top speed. Just as road tyres are limited off road.
