Hi all, I have recently become the proud owner of a 2015 GSA. I managed a reasonable deal on the bike with the spec I wanted, but I'm not a massive fan of white bikes.
So, I'm looking for a change of colour and have found a some vinyl wraps I like.
I have approached a few local companies but it seems that the recession must be over as I have received a luke warm response at best.

One guy flat out said it can't be done due to the limitations of the material!? (They had pictures of bikes they have wrapped on their website) I didn't argue.
Another one said she could do it but can't guarantee the result as there will have to be creases and seems showing! I did show her pictures of wrapped GSAs but she said it is what it is.
Another one asked me to pop in so they could have a look at it, I did and he took some pictures and said they would call me back when the boss came in. He did ask if i would be stripping the bike myself and i said i would prefer them to do it. That was a while ago. I might give them another ring as they could have mislaid my number or something, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I'm basically thinking that it is more effort than they are willing to do or they are only able to do tinting and simple panel work.

I don't feel capable of doing it myself. So my question is where did you guys get your wrapping done and how much did it cost?

I would prefer somewhere quite local (I'm in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire) but would travel a reasonable distance for a good job.

Properly? I don't understand. How is a respray like getting a bike wrapped?

It's not removable, it's more expensive, it doesn't offer any paint protection, the designs are more limited, insurance companies hate it and it's not really what I want.
But if you know someone good enough to do a respray with digital camo and apply paint protection film for a reasonable price I will call them for a quote.

Your first post suggested you were struggling to find someone to do the wrap for you so suggesting a respray was a good suggestion particularly as you said you were only trying to change the colour. You didn't mention anything about paint protection, wanting it to be removable or that you are worried about upsetting your insurance company :blast

But I see where you coming from, you have bought a GS LC bike and you want to camouflage it, makes sense to me :D

These lot are based just outside of York. The website was down this morning but I know they do some cracking work and specialise in bikes. I wouldn't have thought your bike would pose much of a problem.

I dont know why they companies said they cant do it. I did mine myself. The tank required two cuts, so there are two joints, but they are on parts of the tank you don't really see (like between filler cap and glove box thingy) the 'beak' can be done with one single piece on each side. The bonus of the camo wrap i used is that it hides any joints well. I think, mine will last about 6 months, before getting tatty. I had to stretch the material a lot to get it on there, so perhaps thats why people dont want to do it, because it wont last. but have a go yourself, its easier than it looks. I just used a hair dryer. Ive already bought some darker digital camo wrap, as I'm not happy with the colour of the desert camo. I've bought a spare set of panels, which i can try the new wrap with anyway.

Some relatively recent shots of the front & back

That's interesting, you only expect it to last 6 months? Is that because of how you applied it, the wrap material or because of the off road riding?
Also have you informed the dvla? Seems a pain if having to inform them every 6 months. Unless you just keep wrapping with same material.

Could be my lack of technique or that the material really is on its limit, stretching it over the tight curves of the GSA plastics, but see a couple of pics below, where the material as raised up in dips and starting to come away slightly where its been stretched hard over an edge. You'd be unhappy if you paid for this 4 months ago i expect. but as it cost me about £30 and i can do it again in something else, it doesnt bother me. But there are limitations to the material. Perhaps an experienced installer would have started in a different place and not had to stretch it so much.

You say you don't like the white colour - so there is not much white to change - only the tank cover and the beak really. So, why not just use plasti-dip. http://www.plastidip.co.uk/ Get yourselves a few cans and change colours every month! :thumb2
