Guards, protectors, whatever... are they really needed?

I'm taking no chances & putting the stainless mesh cover on my oil cooler. The bodywork paint is perfect but the cooler already has lots of paint chips with the previous owner.

The standard bike is bang on for road work and going to Tesco's but if you are intent on some rough gravel or dirt roads, it's wise to put some bits on in my opinion.

My 88k GSA been hammered all over the place from smooth tarmac to the Dalton Hwy and I have the following which I consider essential for my needs:

Headlamp protector
Oil cooler guard
Potentiometer guard
Front engine crudcatcher thing
Mudsling

Anything else is bling I reckon but you pays your money etc etc

I've got a potentiometer guard on mine as well, I'd say it's essential to, as mine was damaged by a fat kid from next door wanting to "sit on your bike mister" He stood on the potentiometer getting off it and cracked the connector ........ lesson learned :-)

Not impressed with the touratwat quality though, I bought a black one, it's only 4 months / 5,000 miles old and the powder coating is dropping off it.

A grown up on here told me it was the best thing to put on as if you break it, it's game over.
