Which is the best to go for H or V rated tyres for the 1200, H listed in the spec but the V which I thought were the better of the two are cheaper than H

I've always used V rated ones. I thought H was speed rated up to a sustained 130 mph and the 1200 is reputed to top out at 136 mph.

Metzeler and Bridgestone recommend a V rated fitment (Tourance or Battlewing), but Michelin and Avon go for a H rated fit if you use the Anakee or Distanzia

Thats what I thought, but the manual lists H but as the V are cheaper and higher rated will go with them.

Cheers :thumb2

In my experiance H rated tyres have a slightly softer compound than V rated.

I always used H rated tyres on SMs for that very reason as V's often struggled to get up to temperature on such light and (relatively) slow bikes.

This may have implications for wear rates :nenau

I'd imagine that part of the reason for this is that the V rated tyre will have a stiffer carcass than an H rated one. Less deflection of the carcass will lead to the tyre heating up at a slower rate.

I had a puncture repaired last year and was told by the tyre shop that a V-rated tyre is only allowed one repair, which suggests that an H-rated tyre is allowed more than one repair.:nenau

Pretty good price on Tourance

Was looking for a replacement rear Tourance and thought I'd give the german company Moto-tyres.co.uk a go. Very pleased with the service indeed. A V-rated rear Tourance was just over £80 delivered and arrived in 2 working days.

My local bike shop (who actually know how to fit tyres properly!) will charge £12 for fitting to a loose wheel, giving an all-in total of £92. That's quite a bit cheaper than any of the BM (not surprising), or indeed any other local dealers.

I know, I know, you can get one fitted for £50 and a bag of chips by your independent specialist based 300 miles from where I live...
