On the other hand, the screen is nice to hide behind when Brian Eland comes flying past you throwing 40mph rocks into your face If you don't mind scratching your screen that is! If you do leave the screen on, use it in the most upright position to minimise the chance of bashing your face on it.

There shouldn't be much water on the Hafren course, as far as I remember, but I'd want a snorkel on a GS, just to be safe.

As far a Cambrian vs Hafren goes, I'd say the Hafren is harder going, but still totally doable on a big bike.

I don't remember any deep water on the Hafren last year, I was just saying that given the position of the air intake on a GS, plus the stupid design flaw in the crankcase breather on the 1200, I'd want a snorkel just to be on the safe side.

Two stream crossings used regularly are only about a foot deep. I have been through one of them when it had rained solidly for days and it was still passable.

I'm leaving the screen on. It's already scratched and I recon it's cheaper to replace than the clocks. Should be ok anyway, I'm not going to be trying to win, just get round and have a bit of fun. I chose group 7 so I'd be claiming least skill yet still do the whole event. Just did BMW level 2 on a 12gs and it felt fine to throw around (away!). On day 2 I didn't even sling it away, (though I had lobbed for England on day one).
Is this the origin of the term "Tosser"?

Ho Hum. Much prefer racing in the wet, don't like dust. Also people seem to be under the misguided impression that welsh gravel isn't slippery when its dry, and ride too fast for their own good, and that of others.

That'll be me then.
Just loading the bike in the trailer, and give it the usual once over before I strap it down. Rear wheel feels a bit loose, that's because the bearings have gone!
Now I know I have been out of the routine for a while, but this is unforgivable. No way that a scrutineer will pass this, even if I was dumb enough to ride on it. Quick ring round reveals that either no-one has them, or they are closed for the weekend.
Thankfully one of my mates has a spare wheel which he can lend me (Cheers Brian, you are a hero!), so I just have to wait for him to get back from work so I can pick it up.
Can't believe I have let things get to this stage, really f**king annoyed with myself now.

Don't hold me to this, but I think Craig Beddoes was the over-all winner. My mate wasn't far behind him, but the sheer weight of the HP ensured he stayed behind the little 650!
