Been with the RAC for nearly 30 yrs..
Each year the renewal comes in,it's more than the last,
I am always on Direct Debit as it gives you a cheaper quote on renewal,
BUT....
When it comes for renewal I cancel it and tell the operator why I am cancelling..and haggle the price.....
4 people on the cover and top cover I have.with other bits added..
Looked on line for a cheaper quote.Rac are doing 40% off..
Last year price £305.98....
This year price £420.99..ffs
This year's renewal price is ........£210...

The operator just said would £210 be ok..as you have been with us nearly 30 yrs..same cover aswell......
Yes it would.....

Its not breakdown cover. Its breakdown insurance, read the mandbook you got 30 years ago, and the latest one, and play spot the difference.

Just had my renewal for RAC “Insurance”

Last year £195.00

This year £270……

I called, all polite like…..

I’d like to cancel my automatic renewal please as I find your increase unpalatable.

Hold on sir whilst I speak to my manager…….

Tap tap tap…

We are pleased to offer you a 50% discount as a loyal member …

That will be £135…. Same cover..

Thank you…

Renewed.

We are obviously spoilt here, Its normal to have breakdown/recovery as part of your regular insurance.
Even my TR1 and 2CV, both 1984, have 0 kms cover.

A few weeks ago my van insurance was up for renewal, via the RAC and the premium had doubled with no change of cicumstances. Looked online and took out a policy via the Meerkats for about £15 less than last year. The policy was identical in every respect and the Underwriter was the same company, Ageas. Why do insurance companies try to screw you at every opportunity?

I had the same with the AA Breakdown Cover, last year £120 ish, this years renewal £240 ish. No thanks. I then got constant emails, texts and calls from them all of which I ignored until one day I answered the phone ready to give them a right mouthful. I politely told him why I wouldn't be renewing and after a minute or so I said I had actually got a cheaper quote online via their own website. 'How much was it?' he asked. £78 I said (a totally made-up figure) 'Just a moment' he says........'Yes, we can match that price' Robbing bastards. Of course I renewed, I wonder what next year will bring?

I can't haggle. just get breakdown insurance as part of my regular insurance.

Sigh, I just wish I had the chance to haggle.

Yes RAC tried to pull a similar stunt with me a few years ago, when i rang to cancel they brought the cost down to the previous years figure plus gave me 16 months cover instead of the usual 12!

I’ve been with the RAC for 37 years, this years renewal came in, for two of us with personal cover so any vehicle we’re in or on, £265.
I phoned and asked why so high and they got it down to £95, I still said I’m leaving because they shouldn’t have taken me for granted in the first place and assume I’d just pay.
And the AA had a special, offer of £65 for the same cover.
Loyalty to them is misplaced, they don’t reciprocate.

Same here....I like to think that these European companies charge the Brits extra, so that we can have full cover included. :D :D

It's like banks now. No credit for loyalty.

Time to change me thinks.

blimey, and does not even include Europe at that price

plenty of options out there at a much lower cost and a better reputation

just make sure you check the maximum gross vehicle weight to ensure the whole fleet is included

Yup I take European cover out with my bike insurance company.
Open to suggestions for another.

I used to have AA cover but found that paying the monthly fee for Nationwide flex plus came out cheaper and had full AA UK & Europe cover included plus travel and phone insurance too.

I'd start with a comparison site, ignore the cheapest options and look for the price from Green Flag, assuming they are still offering cover via Moneysupermarket etc.
You used to be able to get LV Britannia this way, which is what I use as they let me renew. So far no price increase on renewal and a lot less than going direct. £63 gets me personal cover, including vans, in the UK and one named vehicle in Europe. It has all the cover, home start, onward travel, hotels, repatriation in addition to attending a breakdown.

Would be good to get one where everything is included. Plus bike breakdown in Europe instead of doing it separately.
