Hall effect sensor fault question

Hi, the GS has just passed its MOT and whilst it was there we checked for fault codes. It was showing 2 HES failures. From my understanding the bike wouldn't run if either had failed so I'm guessing they were old codes. Or could the faults show and the engine still run? Thanks Marc
 
Which muppet is operating the fault code reader.

The hall sensor fault code will show if the engine isn't running :D..
 
That would explain it! The mechanic who normally operates the test equipment wasn't there so the guy was just following the on screen instructions and to be fair to him it never said to start the bike ;-)
Good to know the old girl is 'faultless'! Apart from the ABS of course..................
 
For them not to show as a fault you would have to turn the engine over on the starter so the gate passes the Hall sensors other wise the ECU can't see them

Basically ignore Hall sensor faults if you haven't turned the engine over

And don;t bother turning it over because You don;t need to :aidan
