Dear Friends,
I recently purchased a 1994 R1100GS with 39k miles. I purchased the bike knowing that it had been diagnosed with a bad HES. Hence the reasonable price of $1700 US.
Upon bringing it home I removed the plate and confirmed by disassembly that HES was indeed bad (wire jackets crumbled). I repaired the wiring and reinstalled but no spark. Next I purchased and installed a new HES and same thing, no spark and no injector pulse, however I do have positive voltage at both the injectors and coil as well as the HES. Please note that when I unplug and replug hall sensor the fuel pump does cycle.
I do not have a side stand or clutch interrupt problem as the bikes engine does turn over until side stand is put down. I have no bad fuses or relays, the Motronic is getting power and the hall sensor wires to Motronic plugs ohm out correctly. I have also confirmed that the coil is good by ohms reading.
To be sure of bad ground connections I removed Motronic from the bike, then removed the mounting plates to clean mating surfaces. I reinstalled and added a ground wire from the new battery to the Motronic mounting screw adding the new ground wire to the other grounded wires at this location on the left side mount.
I have discharged the Motronic, removed battery wires overnight, I've tried reseting Motronic by opening and closing throttle 2 or 3 times however I am not fully sure about this procedure but I imagine at the very least that the engine should spark.
There is something else although I am unsure how it may be related, the ignition switch had been left on while the bike sat at previous owners' location (more than a year and bike has been off road since 2009:0!!). Because of this I need to push up on the bottom of the ignition switch when turned on in order to get the RID to light up. Once this is done the switch performs as it should, the engine turns over, oil light goes out during cranking, etc.
Does this bike suffer from the ignition ring antennae? Or does it have some other disabling security systems that I may need to be aware of like a chipped key and the key I have is only for opening seat?? I know so little about the bike:/.
I have searched the internet for days reading so many thread that all end the same, replace HES and go riding. On 3 occasions I found a similar problem to mine and the threads all end there........is my problem contagious :/? Btw, I am in USA and to my knowledge my search has not been international.
I am desperately hoping that somebody has heard of my problem and can point me in the right direction (riding weather has been perfect here lately). I am very capable of reading wiring prints and using a DMM.
Thank you very much for your ideas.
Best Regards,
Jay
ps, I also recently replaced oil sight window and oil switch above....the engine is a bit overfull as old window was cloudy.
