1997 1100GS. Heading through Montenegro, bike running sweet as ever, I stopped to do something with the Zumo, but when I went to restart the motor it was a no go.

Fuel pump not priming. Side stand switch OK, fuse OK, think relay is OK.

Don't think power is getting to pump - put a test bulb on brown wire to the plug under the tank to earth, it didn't light.

This is pretty much exactly what happened a while back (an easier to sort 4 miles from home) which was fixed with a new HES from Motobins.

I would have expected even a pattern part to last longer than a year, so is there anything else I should look for, and how can I test the fuel pump.

Was bloody luck to get off the road last night, a KTM riding local sorted us a lift to Podgorica, the capital. Bike is at BMW main dealer, but of course they haven't a clue. Gonna try to move it to another dealer, but would like ideas as they may be just as much in the dark.

All help much appreciated.

Do I buy a newer bike????

I had the same on my K1100LT which was/is the tank connector plug although it’s not always evident and has had me fiddling around more than once with the multimeter only to go back to where we started. Sons 650GS had a seized pump through lack of use which was sorted with some brake cleaner.

Much as they don’t like the Germans in that part of the world there are a lot of older BMWs running around so would have thought you could track down another pump if needed.

Managed to contact someone here who sourced a new pump and fitted it, so we will be on our way now, nothing to see here. We were supposed to be in Albania, not sure I would have been so lucky there

No need for a new bike then
