Hammerite for rocker covers?

I assume Hammerite (spray) will be ok for repainting my tired old rocker covers?

Also, I assume that I can just unbolt and remove? No need to drain the engine oil?

Use the Smoothrite if painting silver, if you remove the bolts you may find the rubber inserts need replacing.

No need to drain the oil but you will spill a bit so don't do it on the front room carpet without a drip tray

Ive had no success with Hammerite on bike parts. IME, it chips too easily and isnt especially cheap. I have found a powder coater locally who does a great job for little more than the cost of paint so I now use him for most bike related stuff.

I've had plenty of success with Hammerite smooth on bike parts. I painted several bits of my 1100 years ago and it still looks the same as the day I did it.

In my experience the end result and the durability is all down to the prep and the application technique.

Just noticed my Hammerite smooth black is pitting on my K's fork legs after just a couple of rides. Will look elsewhere for paint in the future.
Also may be down to lack of prep as only sprayed on original black paint.

I had my panniers powder coated to great effect so I will drop by and ask their advice too.

Guys, these covers cost approx £100 each and when you are talking about a £10,000 bike, you'll need a good appearance when you come to sell. Is it really worth a 'bodge' job ? No offence meant to your painting skills. EDIT: sorry its an 1150 , spray as much as you like

We I've removed the rocker covers without too much drama, now
I need to decide which colour to use, either original 'Ferro blue' or a gloss or satin black to suit the rest of my black (Bumble bee) bike.

I've a couple of photos of Beemers with painted rocker covers on the net but nothing too recent.
