handlebar crash bar

Hi all, I have seen some pics of ADV's with a crash bar fitted across the handlebars and a pad fitted to it and it looks rather smart.

Is this a genuine BMW part and will it just mount to my standard bars or are there different shapes of bars to which this bar can be fitted to?

Depends which year. Up to 2008 is one size. 2008 onwards is another.

From memory, Touratech sell them for both models for about £25.00

Handlebar brace's were standard fitment on the early 1200 GSA's but they seemed to drop them from the spec when they moved the foglamp switch onto the handlebar clamp

Really? ..... I thought it more likely it was outside influence from the German Health & Safety Nazis

I can see it now. They move the switch down onto the handlebar clamp then some twat loses control and lobs himself and his GSA off a mountain pass trying to flick the foglamp switch to on but couldn't because the handlebar brace was in the way
