thinking of going for a ride this coming bank holiday, probably start near winchester, and head west.

Pogo suitable, or big bike if your have lots of enthusiasm and little mechanical sympathy.

Anyone else interested?

That will do nicely !
Looks like Monday is going to be sunny so just about perfect riding conditions.

Looking forward to it.

Anyone else up for this ride out?

Brief ride report....

Jay/Hans,

thanks for joining me on what turned out to be a cracking ride. From start to finish we clocked up 120 miles.

The airfield coffee stop not far from Wingreen has been noted for future ride outs to.

We also had the pleasure of meeting "grinningGSer", and another chap from bristol motorrad on the old shaftesbury drove, keeping us company until we passed a particularly gnarly bit of lane over behind salisbury race course. We did hang around for about 15 minutes, but figured you'd both seen sense and decided to turn back. It was good to meet you both.

Our route started out from andover, where we dropped down via a few lanes to the back of stockbridge, where we got onto the monarchs (?) way. this takes you almost to salisbury. At the end of this we headed south and over pepperbox hill, and on into Downton for fuel and a pasty.

From here we headed west onto the south plain, which is mostly trail, and nauturally takes you out onto the old ox drove, heading towards shaftesbury and win green. 2 minutes ride from win green theres an airfield that has a cafe, where we stopped for a quick coffee.

After the pitstop it was back on the bikes, up to the A30, where we picked up the shaftesbury drove heading back to Salisbury, on the way we met up with 2 shifty looking characters on 1200 GSA's, who tagged along until the race course:D

From the race course, we cut back across salisbury, and out on the A30, picking up a couple of trails that take you up to palestine, and then onto shipton belinger, where another trail takes you east, back past thruxton and then back into andover, where we called it a day.

i just wish i'd remembered my camera!:blast

Nathan,
Superb ride out!!

What a route,it had a bit of everything and all at a good fast pace.Really had to concentrate to keep up and enjoyed every minuete of it.I had not ridden any of the lanes we did today so it was great to explore and find such good tracks right on the doorstep.
Thanks for doing such a good job in guideing us.
Hans hope that ride gets you back on the bike more - Thanks for the coffee it was very welcome.

Good to get out and enjoy the day - Thank you both

Cheers

Jay B

Looks good - shame I couldn't make it - I will keep my eyes peeled for the next one !

It was a cracking ride out.On one of the stops we spoke about doing the entire route round Salsbiury plain off road including the part that goes down south towards Salisbury. It would be a good run and take a bit of planning, may try and twist Nathans arm and see if we can get the idea off the ground.Ill post it up here if we can get it sorted.

Nathan.

Fantastic day out and thanks for the loan of the map. I feel every one of my 50 years! Radox bath is the order of the day. Must try to finish off on the Plain next time.

It's all do-able Jay, i did try and do this run for the hograost last year, but ended up missing quite a chunk out as we ran out of time.

But on reflection i'm not sure the Hograost would be the time to do it again- after last years attempt, we finished the ride with a lot of broken riders.

Broken in the sense of being mentally and physically shattered from the ordeal, to the point i'm not sure the evenings entertainment was fully appreciated :blast

I'm currently thinking August bank holiday weekend (provided it doesn't clash) for a big ride- i'll see if i can sort a 200 mile/day?

what does everyone else think??

Nathan
