Johnny Boxer and myself, raced around Oxfordhire and the Cotswolds yeaterday like a couple of loons.
Keeping away from the madding crowds and hitting the A and B roads for about 75 miles and he worked it out to be 73 MPG over the course of the day, well happy with that considering we whizzed about somewhat

So with an MPG of 73, and if I fit 2 x 5L Acerbis tanks, that will give me a range of 325miles. I could live with that....

Ash, if the bike is high and you have the standard shock, then fitting this collar lowers it by 40mm, and is a quick and dirty solution.

I did it on mine and was happy with it and GSEddie now has that shock on his XChallenge. I bought it off e-bay and had the local bike shop compress the spring and insert the new collar.

I am quite envious of that set up of van and trailer. I have had my Xcountry ten days now, and just loving it but not getting quite as good fuel consumption as you. I think it is mid sixties on average but very happy either way.

I am not much of a farkler by nature, but because my bike is showing a few signs of age, I think I will be joining in with the updates. That bike of yours and Micky's looks so tasty - a bad influence. I definitely feel I need a tougher bash plate after yesterdays ride on the Wayfarers trail and a bit of a screen would not go a miss.

If you're going to do a bit of offroad, you would be advised to get a 14t front sprocket from Talon as the 16/47 combined with Fi is too tall for slower going

Also you need to fit a different gear lever that will bend, not break the shaft

The F650GS/Dakar steel one fits perfectly and that way you won't break the gear shaft

Try ebay or your local BMW dealer

With the gearing as it is, it's not easy to ride slow and trickle along and thus, you have to slip the clutch which isn't good for it

A 14t will make it easier for both of you, even trickling through traffic and you'll only lose 5-10mph at the top end

Just clocked 202 miles before the yellow light came on with an Acerbis 5L tank fitted and plumbed in. Will now run it till the tank is empty to see what the max mileage is with this setup. Looking good so far.

I can do 80 miles on reserve with the TT tank. Don't know how far it will go from full as I've not had a long enough journey yet to justify filling it.
