Happiness is

Here is Crackers's bike on the left (I believe not unfamiliar to you Micky or indeed DKF) ready for departure on said trip to Maroc.

You will note the commendable approach to travelling light.

I also managed to fit most of my stuff into the tail pack on my XCh, but somehow also managed to end up with a full set of panniers as well :nenau

Trip report to come :D

The bikes look great Ian. It's nice to see the XCountry again. Looking forward to reading the ride report and seeing more pics. Have a great trip.

We've already done the trip - the XCountry (and indeed the XChallenge) performed faultlessly throughout :thumb2

Cheers,

Ian.

Basingstoke to Dakar on an XCo.

Cheers Ash! Yes was a great trip and the XCo coped with everything apart from deep sand, and much of that was down to the rider. Never missed a beat in 6,400 miles, carried luggage well, and sipped petrol for the long run through Mauritania. What a bike!

I like them.
What pannier frame are they attached to?

Cheers Dave.

I like the DBZ pannier rails as they are more desecrate than say the H&B rails, and much more simple, though of course not as robust.

They are designed to carry the mass close to the centre of the bike, which is great if you are riding solo, but I sometimes ride with a pillion. This means that I need to mount these bags far enough back so that the pillion can use the footrests. This is easy, but the mounting isn't as good as if you were riding solo, or used more traditional frames.

Micky, where did you get those straps from? I'm looking for something similar.

They were spares from a BMW pillion seat bag. They had a plastic clip on t'other end that snapped in to the fastening on the bag itself. Just loop them round a frame or whatever with that looped end. Cut the plastic clip off and used what was left :D

Any bit of canvas webbing with a loop on will do ...

:beerjug:

Edit ... in fact the other strap you can see, going out of the picture to the left, has the plastic clip on it for when I use the BMW pillion seat bag :D

Clever eh :thumb

Happiness is pulling the covers off after nearly 6 months  and giving her a good clean and quick dry off, blast around the block.....

Indeed Ash ... indeed :thumb

He took me out for a day on the tracks'n trails of Yorkskhire and must have been simply gobsmacked at how an old man on an old XCountry rode those tracks that he struggled with on a proper Honda off roader :nenau
