I am replacing the battery on on 2005 1150 GS Adventure later today, and intend hard wiring the Zumo cradle directly to the battery.

Are there any tips or suggestions I need to be aware of? Eg one thing that crossed my mind was do I need to secure the cable somewhere to stop it rubbing underneath the tank?

take the tank off , route out your lead , connect it up ( allowing for movement) bolt to battery , stow excess wire neatly and ziptie it all down , test, tank back on , and road test . job done .

Don’t forget the fuse. :thumb2 And put it somewhere easy to get at too. :D

Sadly a permanent live to a Zumo socket has been found to increase corrosion in the pins forming the connection, eventually leading to failure; much better to wire it to a switched live feed such as the pilot light in the headlamp that is always on via ignition.

Yeah, I tapped into the tail light feed then ran the wiring down the RHS of the bike. Apart from corrosion or running down the battery perhaps, having the unit switch off means it will attract less attention if you leave it on the bike while paying for petrol or whatever.

Give the contacts a smear of dielectric grease every now and again stops any corrosion.

Years ago, it was Vaseline, wonder if that's still used on the terminals ..... PS the Zumo instructions are to wire direct to the battery although switched live makes more sense to me

switched live means .... everytime you fill up , you turn it off. zumo then saves that bit of track , and turns off , so you end up with loads of saved tracks , not 1 long track.
when you aren't using it , pull the fuse .
