Hi folks,

As per title, after a trip to Europe last month I feel the need to hardwire a semi permanent power supply to a fixed point on my GS where camera would be fixed to. Can some one please advise me on how to get this done. I can buy this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Car-Charge...=1465749073&sr=1-5&keywords=hardwire+mini+usb And route it from my battery to where I want the camera to be fixed. Do i need to add any fuses or other protection to it, or just running a positive from battery terminal and neutral from anywhere on the frame be fine?

I basically got fed up with batteries running out of juice halfway through fun bits, like an unusual and very sudden downpour where we were traveling at 130 kmp/h and had to slow down to a 20-30 kmp/h while turning on all the lights including high beam and hazards just to remain being seen. It really was a freak downpour only lasting around 4 minutes but my waterproof outer jacket got soaked through.

Something like this - http://www.nippynormans.com/charger...ockets/plug-in-usb-90-degree-socket-converter

with the usb cable into the back of the ghost.

Already Own a USB to fag lighter converter. Problem is the vibration and weight of the multiple leads plugged in to the socket were getting USB Charger pulled out out of din socket.
Or a more permanent usb supply - http://www.nippynormans.com/chargers-and-sockets/charging-and-sockets/universal-usb-socket-kit
Way to expensive as I can get one from amazon for a ¼ of the price and a free delivery.

The question really was about the method about the wiring in it self not the type of adaptor/leads.

Thank you

Do you not have a 12V outlet at the front right of your R1200GS LC? Take the power from there to your USB Drift connection or, alternatively, use this 12V feed to a power pack in a tankbag and feed the camera from there. That's what I do with my GSA.

What Khulu says or as an alternative, I use a usb power bank - 13000 mah bank, easily pocket sized and will last all day. Charge up at night for the next day.

We "bairns" seem to be of the same mind!
By using the power pack in my tankbag I also feed power to the remote control velcro'd over my right forearm. I discovered, the hard way as usual, that it also runs out of power after a day of intermittent use!

The Ghost S looks really good, but how waterproof is it with either power or the external mic going in at the rear?

Trying to find a high quality high bitrate camera with a waterproof external mic isn't easy.

Not very I would imagine , not designed to be totally waterproof with these ports opened. Would need the alternative back cover for full proofing but alas no external connections.

Ok, so if it starts raining, pull out the mic lead until the rain stops.

Ive run a drift HD Ghost for 3 years with a mic in all seasons and not had an issue with rain entering the camera.

The idea is that I can run Drift camera without battery through the USB power supply, that way the camera is permanently live for a duration of the ride without worrying about battery loosing its juice.I am one of those "annoying perfectionist" people that like things just so and tidy, on my recent trip to europe I had a din to car fag lither adaptor, following by a twin USB adaptor, with usb cables sticking out of it to charge my phone and a power bank. The whole contraption (adaptors) kept vibrating it self out of the din socket and things not being charged for god know how long till I spot it hanging out, not only that, it looked bloody awful, it looked like kits SpagBol :barf:1/10. Having USB cable tucked away when not used will keep it on the bike till i use it again without having to plug load of shite beforehand, oh and it'll still give me a spare charge port if i will need to use it. I just really want to know when it comes to wiring, how to get it done the best way without having battery draining without running the engine.

Others have already said it? Battery pack in handle bar bag or tank bag, will run a drift ghost for 5 days without recharging, why power pack rather than bike power? Bike power can induce noise to both the image and the sound in the camera. If you still want bike power then still handlebar bag with usb charger plugged into power socket and usb lead back out to drift beak / indicator stem mounted, ran like this now for 4 to 5 years as for wet weather and Drifts no problems see below

I would think you have 2 choices here, wire up to the aux supply that is switched by canbus & lasts approx 30 seconds after you turn ignition off.. (Never ever flattens bike battery)
Or,
Direct to a permanent live from battery via a small fuse. (I'm thinking you could leave the ghost connected overnight & bike would still start in the morning)

But I'm starting to like the idea of a small power bank that you can take to your room & charge overnight anyway.
The power bank will also suppress any spikes from the bikes electrical system & maintains power even whilst starter is engaged..

Enjoy..

I'd Love to tap in to a switched live via 5/10A inline fuse but i do not want to start splicing in to existing wiring due to bike still under warranty and finance, etc. so I am now thinking to run it directly of the battery via inline fuse with perhaps a manual switch to turn power on or off to the camera ( I may as well tun the camera on/off it self) I have got a power bank but it is rather big and it will need a separate handle bar bag or i have to have permanently mounted tank bag to keep it in. It isn't ideal so I'll try to run Drift of the wire and see what i get, if results will be shite then ill think of an alternative, like a small power bank.

Similar thoughts as above, Thank you for your input.

Sorry - hijack.:topic

Where do you mount the Drift to and what type of mount do you use?

RAM mount with a short leg and a flat circular plate to screw the camera on to. This is all fixed to the top of the crash bar next to the tank. Mine worked fine last year with no shake!

Hi

Are you just plugging your mic into the back of the camera directly?

With the lead then running to your helmet?

Thanks
