hardwiring in a gps

I know this has been covered before but try as I may I cannot finbd the thread that tells me where the gps wires should be connected - 2008 GS by the way.

Its somewhere inder the front of the tank I think. Is there an alternative where I can just connect in two bare wires without buying no doubt silly expensive BMW after market connectors.

Easiest to go to the battery thru a fuse. The GPS socket plays all sorts of tricks with the supply like turning it off if the current draw is too low - which isn't clever in fact it is just plain fucking stupid BMW.

It's a white stick you need - not a GPS

your gps cable should have an inline fuse

There's a plug up near the headstock. It's powered by the can bus and ignition. It works fine.

A fuse won't protect it against having too many VOLTS shoved up it. A fuse works on AMPS...

You will need a BMW plug to use this connector but it's much better than directly to the battery I think. It switches on and off with the ignition and you don't have to fuck about getting connectors and in line fuses for the battery

My GPS runs off 12v & works off Canbus socket so its 12v.

IWHT that any GPS/Satnav with any sort of automotive leanings would be designed to accept 12V supply (if not direct to the unit, at least to any vehicle cradle/mounting).
