Since a long weekend at at Redtread, in Andalucia, I have been toying with the idea of getting a Honda CRF 250 or similar for playing around in the dirt.

Looking at E-Bay I came across this ebay seller.
Has anyone else heard of these guys, or got any experience of buying from them? On paper it seems like a good deal...

There a bit of a different kettle of fish to a true crf mate.

The tors use an air cooled "copy" of a honda engine... an xl one i believe. Its not quite honda quality either to be honest.

To be fair to them they are CHEAP, but if you want something to be competitive then look elsewhere mate. Theyre more for commuting than full on enduro. But you could take in a little gentle trail or so.

Be careful if you do go for one, the depreciation on these sorts of things is shocking. Itll be worth half what you paid for it as soon as you get it home.

surprised that you did'nt offer him the CRM mate...

Thanks for the reply, I notice form their ad that they claim to use a water-cooled, electric start motor....

Are these parts bin specials, or Chinese imports ?

We own 2 TORs and I can tell you they are really great bikes.

Their engines are built by Loncin who build many of the small capacity single cylinder motors for Yamaha. They also build the BMW GS650 engine . Also much of the switchgear etc is the same as used on the Japanese bikes , Beta speedos , CRF wheel hubs,Nissin brakes etc.
We own a water cooled E-XT 250 and an air cooled XCR125 . The XCR is the same as a Honda CRF230 or CCM CXR230 , but with some nicer components and for a lot less dosh !
TOR do not use dealers, therefore cutting out dealer profit and salesman commission which can amount to nearly half the cost of a new bike.

I can honestly say there is nothing on the market to match the quality and price of these bikes. Have a look at AJP and CCM for example .We need to see more companies like TOR.

Dont happen to be the TOR importer do we? :augie

Come on, ive seen people selling them second hand when they are 6 months old for £700 or so for the 250 and still no one was buying them.

The one which looks a bit like an aprilia sxv is alright looking but , you get what you pay for.

I wouldnt touch it.

When was the last time you saw someone win a race (any) on a tor?

I bourght the Ext 125 all i've had problem after problem.
Day 1 hole in petrol tank, carb over filling.
in 5-6 months i've snapped throttle cable, clutch cable 2 holes in exhaust.
Once a car pulled out on me i slamed on & the petty tank moved forword ripping the fuel line.
To be fair Tor came to my house to sort any fuel leaks but all other faults were not under warranty..
It only dose 50mph when i got i've changed by 6 less on the back & 1 more on front now it dose 60mph at a push on a long road.
O & my handle bars were black when i got it now there gold dont know how that happened & its rusting quite a bit to.

I think you must have the 125cc in which case 60mph is very respectable given it a learner legal bike. Maybe it can be de-restricted,I seen TOR offering carb kits / CDis etc.
The 250 does about 75-80 but is very low geared for offroad use and would do much more with a change of sprockets ( and tyres would be wise)
To have a couple of cables break on an enduro bike over 6 months is not unusual and I doubt you'd find any manufacturer cover them on warrantyas they are serviceable items.
At the end of the day they're still cheaper than a knackered second hand Honda and less than the 1st year depreciation on a new Honda / KTM etc.
When you consider the components fitted are the same as used by mainstream manufacturers , then theres no reason they wont still be going strong for years to come.
Incidentally I have fitted aftermarket fatbars and a scorpion pipe .But I would do this, as most people do with any offroad bike ,as the standard items tend to be "budget".

or8 mate i have got a tor paid 250 for bike and had it rebuild what cost me 200 and it will do 75 at a push its not bad cos it only a 125 mate
