A "new" LC GS and an older model, say an 1100 or 1150 ?

If so, what do you see as the main differences, and why do you keep both ?

(I'm trying to justify something to myself here :D )

Get that ridiculous idea out of your head!:D

I have never had or ridden an LC GS so I am very well placed to comment :D

The LC GS is a modern plastic monstrosity and the 1100/1150's are proper motorbikes which are almost as good as airheads.

Don't sit on the fence Mike !! :D

£12,000

Not now, but in 2014 I had both a 1200wc and a 99 1100 at the same time for around 8 mnths.

Obviously, it could be argued, out on the road the wc was a much better bike, faster, handled better, outstanding brakes.

I never thrashed the 1100, and it was a lovely bike for bumbling around on.

As has been pointed out I had around 12k more in the WC than the 1100.

I own neither of them now and don't regret for a second getting rid of the WC which ended up costing me around 4K to own for 16 mnts.

I very much regret getting rid of the 1100, which cost me nothing to own for 14mnts.

Just my take.

If you can afford to have both, get both. Life's short :rob (although it would appear to be doubling up :D )

Keep the 1100 and buy a nice alternative to the Toilet Caricature

Well I have an R1100GS, and have taken both of the last two models of GSA for a test ride, and whilst the were both fantastic bikes, my problem was that, I have the TT tank on the 11, wilbers suspension, corbin seats, after market exhaust and ricky bars.
I left the test drive thinking that neither handled that much better, neither were that much more comfortable (in fact less) all three go as fast as I want to go, I just didnt get that "this is so much better" that I have to get one feel. I couldn't find £12,000 worth of difference let alone £12,000 better than that which I was already riding.
So I got a 990 adventure as well as not instead of as it is a completly different ride. Although I do fancy a S1000Xr and another "as well as bike"

yep, well until yesterday when the 1150 went, but....as a "riding" experience the old 1150 felt better, just more connected, the 1200LC does everything better. I guess its like and iPod compared to the old record player

Very well put and same here. As i keep saying, the 1150 is just good enough to justify not changing bikes. I've test ridden most bikes since the 1150 and whilst they are definitely getting a lot faster (1290 and S1000XR), it's debatable whether they are actually getting better. I get the impression that the 1150 was the last of bikes that was built to last - anything since might be a little faster but at the expense of longevity. Hence I'm sticking with the panzer 1150.

Spud - sell your WC and buy an 1150 and an airhead. The airhead will make the 1150 seem like an exocet missile and you'll be quids in.

I have an LC GSA and a TC GSA . Both different . Sort of trying to sell the TC but it is such a nice bike . Being a tall chap few bikes fit like these do . One life etc :thumby:

You DO know that Vinyl is making a big comeback, and that played through quality components sounds as good, if not better than an iPod or CDs ? :D

Don't start putting more ideas in my head !!! (Actually, airheads .......... Hmmm)

I've got an 1150 and a 1200 WC.
Original plan was to tidy up and then sell the 1150 in the summer. Not ridden it much recently, but no decision made.

Nothing to do with a 1200lc, went for a test ride with a friend yesterday took the K1300R and S1000xr, both decided that neither of us want a K1300, but feck me that XR, not sure I could have it as my only bike, but in company with either the 990 or the 1100 would be fantastic. Dont think I have ever ridden anything with such a comfortable riding position, that was as quick and handled as well...... makes the KTM1290 feel like a tractor.

I used to have an 1150 and now have an LC and can't imagine going back. It's a different proposition altogether - take all the worst bits of the 1150 (performance, brakes, comfort) and replace with modern and superb alternatives and there's your answer to my mind.

My LC is a bloody fantastic bike that's quick, handles and can carry a ton of stuff - I absolutely love it and the next Euro trip, for the first time, it'll replace my Ducati.
