has anyone here got or ridden a new style XT660Z tenere?

I went to check one out today. Nice bike. The only thing I could fault was the seat height, I'd just got off my 100PD, the Yam felt very high and ungainly. I didn't get to ride it though so no other comparison. The dealers only got them in black as well which looks a bit naff.

I'll have a go on one when the weather picks up :thumb

i wasnt keen on the black ones either, like you i will ride one once the weather bucks up..no rush!!

seat hieght wise (at a standstill) i didnt think it felt much differant to any other off road bikes ive rode/sat on including my little DRZ400....no problems reaching the floor with both feet, but the rear seat was high to swing my leg over!!!

More miles

Just been out for a few more miles with Mark today
The more i ride it the more impressed i am :thumb2
This is Marks opinion too
Mark is still running his in at the moment :tears
But it gave me a good opportunity to due a fuel consumption test at 50-70 mph...The sort of speed i would be doing on a trip to be honest
I did 175 miles on 10.5 litres
Thats 350 to a tank...No need to carry cans then :augie
I recon the Tenere would make a great adventure tourer
Out of the bikes i own...If i was going on a long trip with pleanty of off road like the trip i did to Greece last year
Without a pillion it would be the one i would take

Some decent weather for a change

ive been chewing the fat over xt660z tenere for sometime , when i first got my gs its was for adventure touring but the bike i got is mint and i cant bring myself to take it off road and kill it, ive been on to xt660.com and had a good read and the bike just does everything and more ive found a few 2008 model bikes for under £4500 brand new , so i could end up selling a mint 1150gs ,, mind it would have to be a red and white one:D

Dude, have the two.....:thumb2 The GS for the road trips and use the XTZ for some trail riding and adventurised type trip.
£4500 is feck all nowadays........

Timpo.

A bit more testing

Been out for another run today :thumb
A few more miles on the clock and time for a some trail riding...
Overall impressions offroad are good
The bike steers well...Even with the tourances still fitted
Fuelling is pretty much spot on for off and on road
After riding mine for over 1000 miles i am very satisfied with the bike and so is Mark

Buy one...I don't think you will be dissapointed

when i actually need to buy anything new that does what any of my 'old relics' don't , then i will.

here's some examples of my thinking--

gsa1200 - overweight tourer - can't be trail ridden like an 1100 - but the 1100 will tour to 95% of a 1200

1200 - not a big enough difference to justify the price to change - yes i've ridden one - no big deal

1150 - lardier version of an 1100 - not an upgrade

cars - saab turbo- 200whp - convertible turbo - 4 seats leather heated - simple to work on and fix - no garage bills needed

mx5 - too small
S2000 - nice - but 2 seater
merc 300 conv - upgrade path - but costs a lot to change

i got no rush

Didnt like the look of these when they first came out but those that have ride them seem to rate them quite highly and the look is growing on me. It does look good in blue and also in white. Good deal as well if you can get one on the road for under £5000. The trouble is it's just another bike your going to loose money on very quickly, whats it going to be worth after a year?
