Has anyone here hillclimbed a airhead?

Mrs Hatter and I went to the Percy Duff hillclimb at Barbon today. Good sport was had in appalling weather, with a good mix of bikes, mostly supermoto’s with a smattering of road race, circuit, classic and vintage bikes as well. I think a few stayed away though because of the weather and kept the less disposable bikes tucked away indoors. There were a few three wheelers there as well (jap motored Morgan’s etc) which were fun to watch.

No BMW’s though (old or modern), but it did get me thinking that a airhead hillclimb bike would be a pretty cool thing to build and ride in these events.

Anyone here done that already?

Almost anything is good to ride at these events, Barbon is on our list to do with the sidecar.

It might be cool, but it would be a bit tricky. The need to ride smoothly (airheads) is countered by the start/stop actions of hillclimb.
I had given serious thought in `18/19 to stripping down my LC as a way of getting back in to hillclimb as an older person, but other things seemed to get in the way...

Good point, but if it's not about being competitive but having fun and mixing with like minded people on what you have these events are great. There might even be a class that will at least make it easy to compare ones performance with others.

I agree, not in it to win it, but in it to have fun doing your best on an atypical bike

A number of years ago, maybe 2012 or thereabouts, I watched the Hartland Quay hillclimb. One of the competitors was on a R1200R, and seemed to be enjoying it. Like most "casual" hill climbers I imagine he was competing against himself, & if he went home having improved his times, he will have been happy with his day.

The National Hillclimb Club have Give It A Go option if anyone fancies it. We'll try and make Hartland again this year which is probably one of the most scenic motorsport venues in the world with the bonus of a pub in the paddock for after ride celebratory beer.
