Has anyone tried the new Tribe pmr 446 radio

It would seem to do the job if they pair their bluetooth headset with it and you then use pmr frequencies to talk to them.

These are designed to work with bluetooth headsets,if you have an Autocom you just need a pmr radio. It`s the other people that need to buy these so they can communicate on pmr freq through their bluetooth headsets.

Im hoping it does all that
.

The slick advert/vid makes it look great doesn't it. That's marketing for you, the proof of the pudding, as they say...

I like the way they make a big thing about group riding, that's one of the failings of the bike-to-bike Bluetooth headsets in so much as you're limited to a group of four at best. Added to which there are compatibility issues between the brands so your group has to have the headsets from the same manufacturer. The Tribe opens up the comms possibilities to far more riders. Only got to be a good thing.

I reckon, as usual, the range will be a disappointment in the real world in comparison to the figures they quote.

This has been around for a while, maybe not as slick as the tribe and costs close to the same but can interface with Kenwood radios amongst others.

That looks neat

Nice link - Given me some ideas as I have a client who has bluetooth and I have Autocom

Thanks

The Tribe radio has arrived

Well I have gone and bought a Interphone Tribe radio from Chainspeed. Now the fun starts. I just need to get the radio channels sorted out. Anyone managed this yet.

I`m a little confused, you say you have an Autocom, you would only need an ordinary pmr radio hard wired to the Autocom. If your mates use bluetooth helmets they would need this Tribe radio in order to talk on pmr.You cant pair this radio to their helmets to talk to them.I`m off to read the blurb again in case i`ve got it wrong.

Leading me up the garden path are you! :rob

Hi Andy,No i dont think so,this Tribe should pair with your bluetooth set up but it`s not designed to hard wire into an Autocom.

My set up

Just to put you in the picture - I presently use pmr 446 radios to speak to my clients but sometimes have clients with Bluetooth headsets. So I bought the Tribe to link the Bluetooth headsest to my pmr radio. You can scan to find your radio frequency but I was thinking if I had the radio channels I could programm the Tribe, without the need to scan. Just a thought.....

AHH,got you now,you should find the tribe has the standard pmr channels (8)and if you don`t use ctss or dcs tones then you should match easily.I think Kenwood have a slightly different arrangement with their preset channels which might take a bit of sorting if you have a Kenwood.

The Kenwood PMR channel/tone combos are well known (they're in the handbook), you just need to set the other radio to match and you're in business.

Thanks for the info

Many thanks...Will give it a go Tuesday. You talk about Kenwood's, mine field if you don't know the frequencies. My Wintec on channel 2, ctcss 18 is actually channel 6 on a Kenwood. Good job I made a list of all the frequencies.

Could not get it to work

Well I tried, but I could not get it to pair with a Scala G4. Tried it later at home with my mobile, no problem. Work in progress

The Tribe works

Been out again today and managed to pair the Tribe radio to the client's Scala Bluetooth headset. It works, I can talk to him and he can talk back....Brilliant

pls excuse my ignorance. i have been bouncing around all the various threads here and keep losing the will to live. i need to be able to talk to and listen to another rider who doesn't have a bluetooth headset but has a pmr radio. also occasionally i go on group rideouts where people tune their various radios to the same channel. right now i have no comms or headset or anything.( point, indicate, stop and talk)

if i buy one of these radios and an interphone headset will i be able to speak and listen to the other rider(s) via the bluetooth radio and headset if they have non bluetooth radios and headsets. the idea of not having leads and having to wire in autocom units etc, plus being able to link to sat nav seems attractive. not interested in phones or music.

For bike to bike with missus would it make sense to buy the interphone f3 pack and two tribe radios versus getting the f4 sets.

thanks for any advice

As promised some footage of the Tribe radio in Use

The rider has a Scala G4 Bluetooth headset and the tribe radio in his pocket. The Scala and Tribe have been paired. The Tribe radio is tuned to my Icom PMR 446 radio.
The conversation is recorded via my Autocom onto m y camcorder.

Well, crushingly disappointing really. I can hear my mate on the tribe/f4 OK but volume at his end means he can barely hear me at a standstill. Once moving he can't hear a word. Have tried going though the instructions time and time again, his volume seems to be on max, have adjusted his headset, tried different channels etc, but all to no avail. No problems with my Puxing/Autocom set-up reported before. The signal is getting out, just too quiet at his end.

I've got to believe that we're doing something wrong but can't see it....

Ant pearls of wisdom that might sort this appreciated, posting this from a tent in the Ardennes.
