it's YOUR bike , not theirs. you decide where it gets fixed NOT them . if it's in 4th D , i'd get it out asap .

I had my Harley stored in Portugal and brought back to the UK, I gave the recovery operator who was also the storage facility a friendly few words of advice when it was dropped off, I had my driver follow the truck to the yard...When I got it back to Lincs, it was dusty as fuck and completely intact, as it had been dropped at the yard in Portugal...Trouble is in the UK, no one has respect, they just want a quick buck, especially now, so Twizz is obviously not interested in his bike, as fate involves many things...

It’s an interesting question - and one I have been processing…
I am uncertain - so fate will help in the DM process
I would be furious to think that I was being ripped off for a quick buck by my own insurers and a salvage company.
Its the principle of the matter that they might ride roughshod over you rather than looking after you as a loyal customer lining their pockets in the process.
Get the fucking thing back mate and get it fixed, bollocks to them its YOUR bike.

The insurance company view is that if they decide to right off the bike and pay you out it is then THEIR bike to do what they want with.
This happened to me some years ago after a theft. Its okay for common bikes that are easilly replaced but for an older bike that you have spent years maintaining and making it yours its not good.
until you agree a price , it is yours.
Regardless of the price agreed there was no mechanism in their process for me get the stolen bike back even though it had been recovered (badly damaged I admit). They were going to pay out, and that was that. It was stated as such in their contract.
Interesting. I guess here somewhat similar, if it's YOUR insurance paying for comprehensive damage (such as running over a piece of steel) they pay based on the terms of your policy which is typically NADA retail book price plus sales tax.
Glad you are uninjured Twizzle bikes can be easily fixed, take the money, buy OS back, replace the line and JB Weld the case puncture... or replace the case.
Given the amount of oil that must have landed in front of your rear wheel, I think fate has already smiled on you. Very good to hear you didn't end up on the road - such a freak incident.
Thanks, the rear tyre was completely soaked in oil, and it was only fitted a week earlier so had only covered about 50 miles from new, it was a tree lined road, sunny and the road was dappled in shadow.
I thank my stars that hitting the object, subsequent impact with the underslung oil pan ( it’s not technically a sump) followed by the oil soaked tyre didn’t have me off individually or as a sum of parts… hitting the road, or a tree at around 50mph is not my idea of fun these days….
I think - that whilst I could be pissed at the damage…. I’m thankful I’m here and not in hospital…
I know a couple of excellent coded TIG welders not too far from Twizzle, I can probably get it repaired properly for a jar of quality coffee and a couple of packets of Chocolate Hob Nob biscuits (or similar 'currency').

Until such time as claim is settled twizz has the right to move the machine
To a repairer of choice,
The bike is not a write off,however it may well end up being uneconomical to repair(in the eyes of the insurers)
If he chooses to,twizz can agree a price to buy back the bike as salvage to repair himself.
The insurer will prefer not to go down this route as it’s a faff.
It would also be difficult and more expensive if the bike is in the hands of the salvage co already.
This is why I always advise my customers to have the damaged machine recovered directly to me.
We then have control over the whole process

A piece of lorry brake drum pierced the bottom of the crankcase.
Carol Nash recovery picked the bike up and I had it brought back to my workshop.
The insurers inspected it there.
A few days later we worked out a deal on the basis of "cash in lieu of repair".
Basically they had a main dealer quote and paid me that minus the VAT.
I then repaired it myself.
This might be an option for you but, as others have said, you need to take control of the location of the bike.

After the RAC refused to recover me home - I called Bennett’s claim line as it was getting later in the day and I was still at the side of a busy A road with no pavement., ( I was in an entrance to a farm field) I was told quite clearly that the only procedure they would follow was to deliver me to the “Nearest safe transport” and the bike was to be taken away for assessment…they refused my request for it to be recovered to my home address.
My only other option at the time would have been to have paid for private recovery to home, or leave the bike behind the hedge, walk 3 miles to Wickham and go back later…. In a rental van…..

Do you know the current physical location of OS?
