Has the DVD hit your door mat yet?

Yeah, the full Non-NT (standard) City Navigator Version 9 is available, but the update isn't.:(
I misread the first link.:o

I'm still trying to get my system to work for the first time!!! I've managed to get as far as loading maps, but when it comes to unlocking them, I get the 'problem' page saying there's a new version available, and to e-mail Garmin. I did this two weeks ago. Does this mean I can't use what I've got until the new disc arrives??? Surely not.:nenau :nenau

No, you should be able to load and unlock the supplied maps with the unlock code supplied with the unit. You'll normally find the unlock code on a yellow sheet of paper.

Yes, I went through all that with the numbers, then I got the message..

I also got that message even after downloading the relevant upgrades. I intend phoning Garmin tomorrow to see if my registration was received.

Yup, got mine too today (11th jan)
installed it on my PC ok, unlocked it ok, but I cant get it to transferred to my unit though (2720) it says "not enuff space", so, I guess I have to either install it through the proper way, as an update, or delete all the maps (V8) on the unit first.:nenau

Got home from work tonight to find a mail-lite envelope with the Garmin logo in the top left hand corner on the doormat. Woo-hoo! It's my CN v9 NT update DVD :clap

Took a quick look at the manual that came with it (41 pages, of which 2 contain the instructions in english!), and observed that you must have a myGarmin account to be able to carry out the update. This is so that you can get an unlock code.

Note that should not have your GPSR connected to your PC until the updater routine tells you to.

Step one is to pop the DVD in the drive. The updater autoruns and guides you through the process.

All was going swimingly for the first 5-10mins or so until the point where I told it that I wanted to purchase an unlock code, filled in all my credit card details and clicked next, whereupon I received one of Garmin's lovely little error dialogues asking me to copy and paste the error info into an e-mail and forward it to Garmin tech support. Great :spitfire

The only option at this stage was to exit the updater as it wouldn't proceed past this point.

So... I went straight to my myGarmin account and clicked all the links to purchase an unlock code. BTW, this costs you USD88.12 in the UK, notthe headline USD75.00, coz you have to add VAT at 17.5%. What a nice surprise!

Armed with my new unlock code, I slammed the DVD in the drive again and this time it asked me whether or not I wanted to repair my install of CN 9NT, or delete it from my computer. I chose "repair" and it chuntered through the loading process for about 10 mins before it came to the question about whether I already had an unlock code or if I needed to purchase one. Having selected the "I've got one" option, I pasted in my new code and off it went again for another 10 mins or so before announcing that it had successfully updated my PC and that CN 9NT was now unlocked and ready for use.

It then asked me if I wanted to update the cartography on my GPSR or not. I told it that I did and it started the transfer to my SP2720. The progress indicator and time remaining seemed pretty accurate after watching it for about 15 mins, but I had to go out part way through the transfer and it was all done when I came home again. The expected transfer time was one hour, although I can't confirm that this was how long it took.

So, that's it. I can now navigate in more places than before with my SP2720 :beerjug:

Don't have to remove the old one, but I do as then I won't try and plan a route on the "old" information. DAMHIK :o To do it just go "start", "control panel" "add / remove programs" and select the old version of the maps. Saves a fair bit of disk space.
John. Doesn't it depend on whether you have an "update" or a stand alone version? :nenau

I understood that you could remove the previous version if you had the stand alone disk, but couldn't remove the previous version if you just had an "update" disk.

Postman Pat seems to have avoided stealing mine.

All loaded onto PC and Nav III.

Seems to work as well:thumb

I'm guessing you're talking about pre-loaded GPS's? I've never updated using this, so it might be different. :o I know that after I've updated, the old mapping is not deleted and remains avavailable for use.

I read the instructions on the original e-mail from Garmin, decided it all looked a bit complicated for a numpty like me. Tried to log in to the "My Garmin" account for more information, but I can't remember which e-mail address I gave them, let alone the password.

I'm happy with the way my Quest 2 works, so I won't bugger it all up by trying to update it. And I'll save a few quid as well!

(I rode in Spain on some very minor roads last May and the old version seemed to cope OK.)

Help!! I've received my CN NT Version 9 disc today. Loaded it up, and started transferring maps to my 2820. All went OK until 92% (over an hour!) then I got an error code. I've tried the repair feature, uninstalling & reinstalling etc. etc. The CN Version 9 is installed again on my PC OK, and unlocked, but I can't get the DVD to give me the prompt to transfer the maps to the unit. Trying the old fashoined way as per the 2610 by selecting the maps & the transferring doesn't work.

How can I get these maps into my 2820, 'cos at the moment I've got no maps installed at all (well, only the base map)??????

Read more about this problem in other (Quest2) posts. The problem is that the V9NT map need moore memory. Here is what I wrote re Quest2:

CN V8NT needs 1098 MB. (Europe)
CN V9NT needs 1256 MB.

The memory available for extra maps with V9NT is 1256-1098 = 158 MB less than with V8NT.

The Quest2 has 2 GB so V9NT will fit OK as long as it's memory is clean from garbage. Garmin obviously has a sloppy administration of the Quest2 memory.

Mu guess is that Garmis is equally sloppy with the memory in the 2820, the 60CX and the 278.

Obviously my guess proved to be right! You need to clean up the memory from POI's, extra maps, etc before you upload the V9NT map. :(

This problem has popped up on the GpsPasSion forum with owners of 2720's and 2820's reporting failed v9 NT map updates due to running out of memory on the target device. Once the upgrade has failed, there doesn't appear to be a "user fix" for the problem and the device has to be sent back to Garmin :(

Perhaps there could be a sticky on this forum warning users to delete extra maps, POI's, and suchlike from their GPSR before embarking on the V9 NT map upgrade?

I wondered if that might be the case as I had filled all available space with mp3 tracks before last summer's holiday. I have now freed up space, but cannot now get the DVD to allow me to restart the loading process. I've managed to load up all the UK maps into some free space somewhere (god knows where, but it's working) but it seems as if I might have to send it back to Garmin. Will wait until I get some feedback from them, hopefully next week.
