Got home from work tonight to find a mail-lite envelope with the Garmin logo in the top left hand corner on the doormat. Woo-hoo! It's my CN v9 NT update DVD
Took a quick look at the manual that came with it (41 pages, of which 2 contain the instructions in english!), and observed that you must have a
myGarmin account to be able to carry out the update. This is so that you can get an unlock code.
Note that should not have your GPSR connected to your PC until the updater routine tells you to.
Step one is to pop the DVD in the drive. The updater autoruns and guides you through the process.
All was going swimingly for the first 5-10mins or so until the point where I told it that I wanted to purchase an unlock code, filled in all my credit card details and clicked next, whereupon I received one of Garmin's lovely little error dialogues asking me to copy and paste the error info into an e-mail and forward it to Garmin tech support. Great
The only option at this stage was to exit the updater as it wouldn't proceed past this point.
So... I went straight to my myGarmin account and clicked all the links to purchase an unlock code. BTW, this costs you USD88.12 in the UK,
notthe headline USD75.00, coz you have to add VAT at 17.5%. What a nice surprise!
Armed with my new unlock code, I slammed the DVD in the drive again and this time it asked me whether or not I wanted to repair my install of CN 9NT, or delete it from my computer. I chose "repair" and it chuntered through the loading process for about 10 mins before it came to the question about whether I already had an unlock code or if I needed to purchase one. Having selected the "I've got one" option, I pasted in my new code and off it went again for another 10 mins or so before announcing that it had successfully updated my PC and that CN 9NT was now unlocked and ready for use.
It then asked me if I wanted to update the cartography on my GPSR or not. I told it that I did and it started the transfer to my SP2720. The progress indicator and time remaining seemed pretty accurate after watching it for about 15 mins, but I had to go out part way through the transfer and it was all done when I came home again. The expected transfer time was one hour, although I can't confirm that this was how long it took.
So, that's it. I can now navigate in more places than before with my SP2720
