Well, finally it's Thunderbirds are go! Just boarded my Ryanair flight to Memmingen, with the usual chaos ensuing. More luggage and less seats than people on the plane! Worth it though as all going well, I'll be meeting my dahling GS first thing in the morning. 👍

Could be my last one ever, but hopefully not. 😉

Time for nom noms (aka soakage) before boarding...they even named the restaurant after me!

How much was bike to/ from Germany?
Assuming Overlanders??

………..just looked on their website €775 (£667) - that’s actually not bad. If you factor 2 or 3 nights hotel and fuel etc 🤔

The last time I saw you was with a crowd of shady looking characters round you.:D

For us here its all of that plus a direct ferry to the continent, food etc so when you break it all down it's pretty much the same price @TIJ650

The real saving is on time, say three days to Bavaria and three back and you have already used up a week of your holiday allowance.
Ship the bike on ahead, fly in, collect her and away you go and make the best of however many days you have.

Alastair ( @Northern jock ) used them this summer to Greece and back and I think it worked very well for him. Ferry across, ride to Wexford, €20 bus to Dublin airport and fly home. Reverse on the way back. A wee bit more expensive perhaps but he got to where he wanted to be with minimum hassle. And without riding an XT600 from the Highlands to the Greek islands.

Overlanders have it very well sussed at this point and enjoy the support and faith their customers have in their operation. We're very lucky to have them.

Excellent service, worked really well for me as you say and I plan to book it again when the dates are released for 2026. They enabled me to have probably the best bike trip I’ve ever had. And that’s saying a lot.

Booked into the room at the airport hotel and the bikes are here already. Think the plan will be to get moving early days, as it's very warm even at 9pm. Middle of the day will be scorchio. .

Just need to decide where to go... 🤔 First time I've been in this situation, usually it's all planned out! Time to pore over the map, with a cup of tea of course. ☕👍😋

Is Derek driving?
If so he might remember the only Jock in Greece (who was on an XT600)

I did a trip report recently on how to do an unplanned trip

Go down to Kempten, across the border into Austria, around Plansee (nice cafe here), into the Ettaler forest and back into Bavaria. Pop out of the forest near Oberammergau.

The roads around the Hahntenjoch (Stanzach, Namloos) are lovely, but your bike must be under 95dB on the V5. A boxer is fine, and S1000 is too loud. Road from Stanzach to Egg in the Voralberg is superb. We liked spending a couple of days in Bregenz with a day off the bike.

Right, just booked into a hotel not too far from the base of Stelvio. Tomorrow afternoon is looking a tad wet with lots of thunderstorms, but if the weather holds I'll do a good bit of meandering, no point in rocking up too early - came here to ride the bike after all. I'll take it handy enough tomorrow, settle into driving on the RHS and finding my mojo.

Thanks for the tips folks, all advice welcome so keep it coming. Will also be useful for others who roll through this neck of the woods at some point. 👍

Let the deTour begin! 😎
