Zumo Mapping Update (2013.10) - The Rest of Europe

In short; yes, it'll find the mapping and the transition will be seamless. I've run an, admittedly, simulated route that crossed the border from Western Europe into the mapping on the SD card. Worked without a hitch.

In fact I moved the 3D mapping file (GMAP3D.IMG) to the SD card and the file for missing bits of Europe (GMAPSUPP.IMG) to the internal memory. However, it'll work either way.

Thanks...appreciated. :beerjug:

In fact, if you move the GMAP3D.IMG file and any associated files to the SD card (/Garmin/ folder) there's plenty of room to move the balance of Europe to the internal memory. QUOTE]

Sorry for another stupid question but when you said this above what do you mean by the "associated files" ? If I want to lose the 3D but keep the junction view files then I just do the following is this right ?

1) Move the GMAP3D.IMG to SD card (in Garmin folder)
2) Move the GMAPSUPP.IMG and .GMA file to device memory (again in Garmin folder).

Does this speed up looking up places names etc. in the mapping ? If I remove the 3D altogether does it matter ?

Whether or not removing the junk speeds the satnav up, I don't know but in the three years that I have used my 660 all over Western and Eastern Europe I have never found anywhere with 3D mapping but, in any case, don't see the point. The junctions that use Junction View are very limited and I have never noticed it making any difference at all to have a pretty picture of the junction.

All I want my satnav for is to tell me when to turn, where to turn and what lane I need. My 660 does this without all the eye candy that may help to sell the satnavs but all it really does is take your eyes off the road for longer to look at the clever pictures and take up space better used for maps.

I agree for a bike sat nav there is no use for the 3D data I don't see why they can't give you a choice on the map installer to leave it out. The Lane Assist can be useful when you are trying to navigate a strange motorway for example so I would like to keep this.

i have found lane assist to be very useful, and although it is not available for every junction, it is for plenty IME.

it pisses me off that those clowns at garmin can't make it work when i use map installer, which i have to do as their update program is such crud

Thanks Bumpkin.
Yes I also find Line Assist very useful and helpful.
