In short; yes, it'll find the mapping and the transition will be seamless. I've run an, admittedly, simulated route that crossed the border from Western Europe into the mapping on the SD card. Worked without a hitch.
In fact I moved the 3D mapping file (GMAP3D.IMG) to the SD card and the file for missing bits of Europe (GMAPSUPP.IMG) to the internal memory. However, it'll work either way.
