Have fitted Machine Art Fender Extender can I fit Engine Guard as well?

Hi all,

Help please.

I have a 2018 R1200GS Rallye TE fitted with a Machine Art front fender extender. My question is, can I also fit a front engine guard/protector without it fouling the fender extender?

If so, what make?

And advice is much appreciated.

Yes. I have a Cymarc crud catcher fitted in addition to a genuine Avant fender extender. The clearance looks closer than it actually is, but through full suspension movement, there is no contact between the two components.

Yes you can. I had the AltRider one on mine, which pops on and off easily, so you can take it off for cleaning, then put it back on, without having to use any tools.
 
Would you need both? I have the front fender extender but discounted the engine guard on that basis? Thoughts?

It helps to understand that the front wheel moves up and down vertically with the telelever front end. The wheelbase doesn't change as the suspension works.

What make is your engine guard/protector please?

As Mark above says, the engine protector is a Cymarc product and is an excellent piece of kit!

The mudguard extender is a Machine Art from N/N

They been together on a 2017 GS, 2018 Rally GSA and now on my 1250 GSA

you sure about that,think about the tele lever attached where it is,thats why there are metalastic bushes at the top of the forks to take account of the forwards and backwards movement,ride along a bumpy road and put left hand at top of forks and feel the movement,the wheel has to describe an arc therfore changing the wheebase ever so slightly

You're splitting hairs, mate. BMW used to state a key advantage of the telelever is the constant wheelbase. And... remember that as the connection point of the lever to the fork lower yoke moves upward (in an arc, as you state) the forks are getting shorter. If they didn't, the wheelbase would get longer.

Probably. Whatever. At least the wheel doesn't move towards the headstock like normal forks.
 
its engineering,it either goes up and down or in an arc :D

The end of the lever may move in an arc, but the front wheel doesn't. At least, it's not the same arc. :P

I shall build a model just to prove that someone on the internet is WRONG. :aidan
