Have just purchased one of the above for my '99 1150GS to replace the, probably original, Bosch item as the bike is sometimes reluctant to start.

Problem: the earth cable has a captive (brazed?) nut on the tag.

Has anyone else encountered and solved this?

Hate to spoil you pride of purchase but my Hawker died after 2 & 1/2 years. Bloody useless. I've gone back to lead/acid. After all the original lasted 10 years.
So my advice would be to send it back, saying that it doesn't fit.

Thanks Howard,

Well IIRC it has a 3 yr guarantee so I'll see how it lasts.

BTW got the offending bolt out by (in)judicious use of brute force.

Hawker Batteries

With Howard on this one, they are brilliant to turn the motor for about 10 times then it dies very swiftly and takes ages to charge back up. Strong turning power but no endurance to keep it turning on those cold days.

I have fitted an Odyssey battery to tide me over our current Winter. I have found it to be fantastic and am extremely impressed at it's cranking ability on cool mornings which get down to around 0ºC at worst here.

It cranks the bike over faster than the original battery ever did and ABS re-settinging isn't a problem at all now.

I checked all the paperwork before I threw it away. Mine had a 2 year warranty.

A tip for everyone :- on mine, one of the terminal posts came loose. i.e. the nut came loose. This then seemed to disconnect itself inside the battery causing complete loss of juice. Retightening the nut on top had no effect.

Howard,
Thats what I was worried about when fitting the connections on the battery seem to be not up for the job, as in not as strong as acid type battery, when I fitted mine connected + cable straight to battery and then used old plastic cover of old battery to cover, with the - cable used a touratech extention cable that came with the plate to add height to battery.
