Hawker Battery on 100GS

Why is nothing simple?
I've bought a Hawker Oddyssey PC680 (as recommended by the guys atMotorworks) to replace my dying battery and have run into a problem that someone must have faced.

The Hawker, whilst more powerful and the same height and width as the standard is about half the depth so the straps don't hold it securely. A simple but inelegent solution is to use a couple of bits of 3 by 2 to fill the space but I can't help thinking there must be a better way.
I've seen a German gel battery holder but it's about £50 so alternative ideas would be appreciated

Bungee the bastard down

You can get very narrow 5 mm bungee cord fron B & Q etc

Put a golf trolly battery on my r80g/s 3 years ago now....Cost £20,,,is 20 amp hour,,,fits perfect,,,and still works fine,,, It's a glass matt battery like the Hawker..I recon the Hawker is just a rip off

Hi,

You can get a tailor made battery platform from Touratech, I carn't remember the price but it was inexpensive (for once!) and is quite neat and you can use the original rubber straps. Hope this helps

I just used a small piece of wood, slipped it inside an old bicycle inner tube. That acted as a good spacer. Though I did change the terminal connections.

People say these Hawker batteries are a rip-off? I've also got one on my LT. I left the bike in a cold garage for 8 months while I've been away, and the bike fired up first time easily. Not only that, the Alarm was still armed and working.

Worth the money I'd say. That's why I fitted one to the GS

70 Quid ...Left my r80g/s standing over winter 5 months my 20 quid battery still stated it fine...It's a AGM battery the same as the Hawker but unlike the Hawker fitted to the 80g/s it's a full 20 amp hour and it fits without bits of wood

Hi. I bought a food box/dry box with a large rubber 'o' ring for about £1.50 from Boyes-this now houses spare batteries. This, resting on a piece of drain pipe, the size that goes to sink drains, fits perfectly in the gap and original rubbers fit fine.

Purchased from a friend of mine who mends golf trolleys...This is the same as the battery thats been on my bike for 4 years...I know it says cyclic on it but it's a agm battery and it works fine...The r80g/s it is fitted to has a siebenrock fitted and that takes a bit of turning over !...You can find Polar Power on the web and a local dealer for them

I used the space to carry spare plugs, throttle cable and clutch cable in a plastic kids food box. Only problem I had with the Hawker was it overheated due to a regulator problem and expanded. Check out the charging circuit on the bike from diode board. It was an expensive problem and it seems it was caused by a faulty diode board earth causing the regulator to fail. There is no acid to boil off and the battery simply heats up and expands.
