There are HDMI sockets on the back of my telly. What's the difference between them and scart sockets? Do I use one or the other or both at the same time?

Well, I bought an HDMI lead today, plugged one end into stepdaughter no 2's telly and the other end into the dvd player and the telly showed the right picture at the right time. That'll do.![]()
Connecting my Dell laptop to the TV using an HDMI cable, I've got video but no sound.
By a process of elimination, I've established the laptop is not outputting any audio via the HDMI port.
Any ideas how I turn this on ?
Running W7 home.
Thanks
Recently switched to HDMI and disappointed that it doesn't work like SCART and automatically switch the input on the TV to the device you have just switched on .
For example our 3 yr old used to be able to put a DVD on all by herself with SCART but now she needs someone to get the TV remote scroll through the INPUTs and select HDMI for her.

Buz - You could just buy them a new DVD player for £30 that will have HDMI, probably the easiest way.![]()
