As a new GS'er, can someone tell me how to adjust the headlamp. Presently shows me fine view of tree tops on full beam.

Seems to be an adjuster on the back of the headlamp with a flip up cover and a screw to adjust. Is this right? Do I have to slacken off any other screws first?

In looking for other screws I notice that there is an allen key type screw above the indicator stalk on the right which appears to go in through the headlamp housing. I say on the right because the one on the left is missing. Is this the sort of screw that can be picked up anywhere, or do I need to make a trip to a BMW dealer?

Its in the book, but lever in the up ( horizontal ) position is normal riding 1 person, lever in the down ( vertical ) position is lamp assy dipped for riding with a load or 2 persons.

The screw is an adjustment up & down for the whol;e lamp assembly, so if you are on your own with the lever in the down position the lights will be pointing at the sky but not lighting much up 'cos theyr'e crap.

In addition there are two screws for each lamp assy for individual adjustment up/down & left/right of each lamp assy, it is in the book but not easy to decipher, these screws are adjustable thru' the front of the headlamp fascia.

So with just yourself on the bike and the lever in the up (horizontal) position adjust the screw to position the dipped beam where you want it and then experiment with the four individual screws to fine tune it.

When youv'e done all this you still won't be able to see bugger all so fit a pair of fogs under the beak and the world be be a much better place, see "Driving Lights " thread.

Ahh I assumed an 1150 !! 1100 does have better lights but the lever stuff is still valid.

Many thanks. I'll try moving the lever up tomorrow.:beerjug:

Could I ask you about 'the book'. The little handbook that came with bike has the same immortal words as my car handbook - get a dealer to adjust the headlamp.

Is there another book out there somewhere?

My 1150 came with 2 books a rider information book and a technical book, the lamp info is in the latter.

One of your GS mates will have one.

Tried the lever, but on the 1100 what looks like a lever is actually a locking arrangment. Push it down and a pin pops out separating the adjuster.
Found a nut on the arm, so that must be the way of adjusting it?

1100 obviously different from the 1150. I got both books with the bike. The technical one only shows how to change a bulb and the other says take the bike to a dealer. BMW obviously became more user friendly both with the 1150 and its manuals.
