Greetings

Im sure this has been asked before but Ive spent too long looking through the various posts on this site and getting sidetracked so thought Id just start a new post and then go back to checking out the rest of this site!

Ive just got myself a 2010 R1200GS to replace the one written off in february by stupid ped who almost wrote me off as well.. but thats another story.

Ive had the spot lights fitted on the sides and in order to try and be as bright and obvious as possible for our fellow road users, want to upgrade the headlamp bulbs.. Any suggestions gratefully recieved..

Also any recommendations for tomtomrider2 mountings that wont vibrate and get loose as i ride around Europe and get lost?

Thanks :angel

Can't help with the bulbs (although a HID dipped beam conversion would be favourite, I reckon). As for the TomTom, the standard TT bike dock is as much use as a chocolate teapot TBH. I'm on my third now (and I don't use it very often), and have found that the only way to get a reliable, reasonably durable connection requires a layer of insulation tape or similar on the underside of the dock (where it slides into the back of the TT) to stop the TT rattling around and losing contact. A splodge of Vaseline on the contacts also helps. IME it is also important to remove the dock from the bike and only fit it when you are actually going to use it - otherwise the vibes from the bike will destroy the dock in a few months.

Recommend putting a 35w HiD in the main beam

If not HiD conversion I would use Philips Xtreme Vision +100% bulbs.

IMHO a lot brighter/better than the Osram night breaker+.

They do have a shorter life than ordinary H4/H7 etc (18months in my daily driver) but way better than the Osram/Halfords jobs

About £25 a pair H7's on ebay

I have a Touratetch mount for my (2005GS) TomTom seems to work well enough fits onto the top of the handlebar studs so it does hamper the view of the clocks a bit though.

Second that. I've used these and they are the best ordinary bulbs, short of HID, that i have used. Will be fitting them myself.

Thanks very much to all that have replied.
Im busy looking at the websites suggested for both bulbs and ttr mountings.
Cheers! :beerjug:

How often do you ride in the dark. I ride approx 15000 miles a year and of these probably less than 500 are in the night out of town. I have never fitted HID or fancy bulbs, the dazzling of oncoming traffic is probably more dangerous than riding slowly with standard bulbs.

+1 :thumb2

Have them fitted in my car too, what a difference. Well worth it, pick them up on ebay for less than £30 a pair. Try these first before shelling out for HID.
