Hi All,

Anyone know how to adjust the headlamp on a UK GSA for riding on the right so that the dip beam does not go left and up? The manual covers this by saying:-

Headlight Adjustment for driving on right/driving on left

If the motorcycle is ridden in a country where the opposite rule of the road applies, its asymmetric low-beam headlight will tend to dazzle oncoming traffic. Have the headlight set accordingly by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Please don't tell me that the headlamp is "set by a specialist workshop" by means of a roll of black gaffer tape and a Stanley knife :blast

Was hoping for something a little more high tech that didn't involve trying to get a load of sticky glue off of the lens when back home.

Thanks, Roy.

You can't change the beam pattern all you can do is move the entire pattern up, down, left or right using the two adjusters behind the headlamp assembly. So you either put up with not seeing much at night because the pattern is pointing towards the ground or buy a replacement headlamp assembly with the correct beam pattern on the lens. Unless you use black tape......

Unless your moving to live permanently on right hand side of the road - land, i wouldn't bother.
There's not that much offset on the gs headlamp.
I've ridden quite a lot on wrong side of the road and have never been flashed / had a problem.

Thanks all for the replies.......

Thanks for the pic Mallard, but is that not for converting riding on the right i.e Europe to the left ie coming to the UK?

Should it not be like this:-

Same here, both car and motorbike. Maybe you just point the headlights a little lower than usual.

Interesting to note that my 2004 R1100S has a system that can rotate the headlight from LHD to RHD... just unscrewing one bolt and rotating the entire projector. 2 minutes, done. :D

I'd say it was more important to remember to adjust your headlight if you are fully loaded.

Just twiddle the hex knob, it's on the right-hand side behind the light cluster when sitting on the bike - there is plenty of adjustment range - just don't force it too far.

Defo no problem. I had an HID kit fitted to the GS and all i did was to reach down behind the light and flick the lever that dropped the aim of the light. Never had any flashes, which makes me think it was fine.

waste of time.

never had an issue abroad, even with HIDs fitted. no special adjustment.

Same here for me and the missus, both with hid mains and spots, foreign rozzers never ever mentioned it whenever we got pulled.
