I have a 12 plate 1200GSA, which is actually the 4th I have owned. This one came to me - as second owner - with a flat, clear plastic headlamp protector fitted. I have become increasingly annoyed at the amount of glare coming back from this protector when riding at night and so today I have removed it. I am now stuck as to what to do with the four empty fastener holes that used to hold the protector in place? I can't remember how my two previous 1200 oilheads looked in the headlamp area! Then I was leafing through my small collection of BMW brochures and there is a 1200GSA pictured complete with headlamp protector, just like mine. Did the bike come with this fitted as standard? The part does carry a BMW Logo - along with - For Offroad Use Only - moulded into it.:blast

Not standard I believe and to stop the glare, you can purchase from that well known chappie, NN, an anti- glare shield. I would put the protector back on, headlamps are expensive things to replace.

Not fitted as standard but when you buy it it comes with a replacement surround with the four rubber grommet holes. If you don't like the hole you will need to acquire a standard surround. They are held on by a few screws from the rear, ooooo matron.

A bit Blue Peter but, a small strip of thin rubber wide enough to bridge gap to headlight surround and glued to the edge of the Perspex works well if you want to see the difference before you splash out on the NN part.

Thank you gentlemen, an excellent and comprehensive response to the question! I will explore the glare reduction suggestions as new headlights are indeed expensive - although I've recently seen a Youtube clip of a chap simply replacing the glass on his?

The BMW headlamp protector screws to the little self tappers that carry the headlamp's black plastic bezel.

This is the BMW version. Sits close to lamp lens so minimal glare.
