Headlight Deflectors

I'm off on my first overseas tour into France. I'm having problems findin suitable headlight deflectors for the Gs1150. Anyone have any ideas? I've read that most people dont even bother with them but I'd rather stay on the right side of the Gendarmes. Also looking at doing something to improve the seating. £300 for the AirHawk option, not looked at the other types though. Whats the concensus on seating? Anyone used the AirHawk setup?

They can be adjusted by moving the plastic knob at the back of the lights, left hand side as you sit on the bike

On my GSA 07 I just used insulation tape to mask off the beam, just put the bike on its main stand, headlight on dip, shining on the garage door/wall/barmaids ar*e and aply the tape (you only need one strip about 7cm long) until the kick up to the left has gone and you're left with a flat beam(use your finger first,moving over the lens and you'll see where it needs to be). The tape had no affect on my lens and the glue residue cleaned of with screenwash after a 4000 mile trip but I don't know what your lens is made of.

If you're trying to change the beam pattern from dip-left to dip-right, I'm pretty sure it can be done on an 1150 by rotating the dip beam unit in it's housing (presumably after loosening some clamping arrangement). I can't remeber the detail, maybe that's enough to start a search?

Quite correct. The lamp unit is universal and can be rotated after loosening the clamping screws.

Sheepskin is far better than an airhawk, so my other half tells me. I think the 1150 has an extremely comfortable seat so don't need to bother with anything else................or maybe I just have a "GS shaped" bottom

IIRC. Take the clear screen off, take the silver instrument screen / cover off. Then you should on the top of the headlight see an allen bolt. Depending on the bike you just need to slacken it off, or undo it completely. This then lets you rotate the headlight about 10 degrees into EU etc mode

Tighten every thing up and job done. Should be in the manual too. Lot easier to do it before you set off than try to do it on the ferry / train.

But, be careful not to overtighten it ...the ring which holds the headlamp is plastic and gets brittle.

this adjusts vertical, not the kick up

go for the sheepskin,
a lot like the airhawk but i recon its cos its expensive bling that its popular

I use a sheepskin with an Aldi inflatable camping cushion underneath it, eight hours in the saddle today

I managed to find a pic of a Euro spec GS's headlamp. The clear part of the lens, right in the centre of the headlamp lens on the UK ones sits square when looking directly at it. The Euro one was tilted round a wee bit. Seems to confirm what someone said about just twisting the headlamp unit round a bit.

AHA.....................found it, that would of been far too easy and an unsocial thing to do, far better to ask someone. You know what men and instructions are like.
