Ok so i purchased a nice headlight guard from Ebay and i cant find a way to install it..it is obvious that u take of the screws from the right and left signal and then place it between and screw it back again!!but the thing is that when i take of the signal i can do anything because of the cables!!I dont know if anyone understands what im saying but i could use some help:nenau
Posting a photo too!

i see

the larger holes of the two are supposed to be cut out downwards so that they slide over the stalks and not have to pull any wires through, someone may be along with a photo but just hacksaw down and file them so they dont scratch your bodywork.

Have you searched for an inline connector in the loom, upstream of the indicators? I never had cause to look on my 1200, but surely there must be one. If the manufacturer expected you to fit it without disconnecting the wiring, would they not have pre-slotted the holes?

And if there isn't, I'd have a good look at where the wire connects to the bulb socket inside the indicator head. Either way, I would think there would be a way of fitting it without slotting the holes - and if there wasn't, I'd cut and reconnect the wires rather than slot hose holes.

YMMV, of course...

Sure their must be a way with the cable pulling out and in again but im a bit irrelevant with electrical stuff so i cant risk it,by the way i have a GSA with the latest small led signals!

wires

hi
i have the touratech type with slots, however if you follow cables back the should go into bullet type connectors ,so a case of pull out and tread though holes and put back in . the nuts on the back of the indicators were a fiddle on my gs . the new type led indicators are extremely fragile ..:)

Unfortunately old cock you bought the wrong guard 'cos in Greece ur riding around in broad daylight one minute and the next someones knocked out the sun and its pitch black.
Here lies the problem the Touratech type guard is fixed and the headlights glares back on the screen and is dazzling in your eyes in the dark. I was talking to a German chap recently and they are apparently disallowed by law in Germany and Austria I think he was saying. What you need is the Wunderlich type that you can flip up at night (you'll not get any pebble chips as all the idiots are in the bar by this time, including me:beer:) so stick it back on ebay and get the aforementioned.
BTW the wunderlich fits easy on my 09 1200 Adv with the little LEDS and they are only fragile if you give them a good bollocking with a lump hammer, so be firm but fair.

Thanks mate but i think that kind of weather change doesn't happen here..when it's sunny it's sunny and when its shitty it's..sunny!!Have fun!!

I had one of them

As the title says. To fit i took the spade connectors off the indicators and pulled them through. Not a difficult job.

However the gaurd is not very good in my opinion and i have removed mine. The stainless arms started to rust. It was a bit too wide and kept forcing the nearside indicator off of it's mount so i had to slightly bend that arm. To top it off after the first bit of rain it gets really dirty on the inside and you can't clean it.

It also reflected back badly.

All in all not worth the bother of fitting. Mine was on for about 2 weeks before it has been chucked to the back of the cupboard. I haven't sold it on as i don't think it is suitable.

TT's Headlight guard with glare reflector FTW

PROs:
Easy to fit.
No glare.
No GS or TT logo on the arms.
No rust.
No broken headlight (been there, paid the cost before fitting a protector).

CONs:
Cleaning using a brush, bottle etc; not the end of the world though.
Bit like a visor; over time it gets 'tired' with use.

Open up the indicators by taking off lens, and pull apart the bullet connections, stalk comes away, slip cables through the stalks, then align with the cut edges in the holes on the headlight guards, with the indicators.

Takes about 10 min for both sides.
One tricky bit is reconnecting the bullet connections back inside the indicators as BMW cut the lines fine, that said small nose pliers make it easy.

Had mine on about 3 months I have no issue with it. Indeed one run out it was smacked by a decent size stone and protected the headlight, so already paid for itself, and as to the light reflection, can't say it has bothered me one iota.

WTF???

Ok its obvious that taking out the lens from the indicator didn't work because the new small led signals dont have a screw or anything that seems like attaching the lens to the signal, tried to just take it out with a very thin knife but it did a little crack noise so i stopped..so maybe i will put the headlight protector in my butt...!!!

Indicators

Sorry missed the bit about the LED indicators. Mine are the old Bulb type (2006). They come apart easily. If the indicators don't come appart then there should be a brake point fairly close by.
