hi there.
just wondering where you got the explor stickers from, and also did youhave your panniers and crashbars painted or powder coated?.:beerjug:

In 40+ years of motorcycling, including many offroad trailriding, I have only ever had one headlight cracked, and that was on my way to Shipley to swap for a new bike - bad luck.
So - headlight protectors as a useful extra - I doubt it.

Tell my mate who got his 12GS lamp destroyed by a stone thrown up by the rider in front. Totally destroyed his headlamp glass and cost about £240 to replace. He now has the same as me fitted.

Oh, I've never had a headlight lens broken in 32 years of riding, but that's not to say I never will.

You slip it forward to unscrew the four small philips screws which hold the black plastic rim around the lenses in place. BMW supplies a replacement one which has the the four receiving holes for the guard. See pic in thread above.

Really easy to do - took me about 15 mins.:thumb

all the crash bars and panniers are powder coated, the two plastics are painted and the stickers I made in my office.

I am worried about falling off though....

By the by, suppliers tell me that 'Perspex' is 100 times stronger than glass, scratches easily but is brittle and fragments and Polycarbonate is 1,000 times stronger than glass but scratches far more easily.

I would have thought after some time, any plastic would affect the refraction and the throw of your headlight.

My bike is parked in a police station yard every day - often next to traffic police bikes. Nobody has commented on the wire mesh headlight protector. The last bike had the polycarbonate one and that was awful for reflection, the wire one is great.

Same for me.

I fitted the Touratech mesh type to my 09 GSA. I like them.

The only issue I had is that when I had it on my 07 GSA, it corroded at the "joins" where the sections that go back to fit behind the indicators are.

I got it sorted by getting the rust off with Hammerite Kurust, then respraying the entire thing using Rustoleum spray paint in matt black (3 or 4 coats). Spot on now! :bounce1

wunderlich wire mesh type.

similar to the touratwat item (which i used to have), but it flips down out of the way when required. very handy as they make the beam all stripey, especially bad if you have HIDs fitted ;)

i don't think the type i have fit post 08 bikes though.

Is yours about 1 inch too high also?
